I wonder how this all would be treated if the Covid-19 struck in December 2020?

I spent some time in various more rural parts of Louisiana this weekend. While everywhere had mask signs on the door, I felt right at home going in without, there weren’t many to be seen. Employees or customers. Not many Honor Code fans to be found either.

This wasn't a serious post, was it?

Florida might have its share of trash but it's one of the better run states in the country.

That's the only reason I wear a mask. If I don't wear one and someone talks shite, I'll wind up getting arrested and/or sued. Then my career is probably done too.

Try visiting Colorado. Those freaks wear masks outside, everywhere.

I live in Colorado and can confirm. No one has said anything to me about not wearing one outside. But if they do, my response will be to show me where the CDC recommends wearing them outside with no one else around me for more than a few seconds as I walk past them. Other than people wearing masks outside, I don't feel as if the government is overly restrictive. They at least try to act with some logic and reason which is more than i can say for the government of my previous home (NOLA)

This statement is uttered daily and couldn’t be more wrong. When a business applies for license to conduct commerce in a state that license binds them to two things - the state and federal constitution. The 14th Amendment - check it out.
Same reason the libs went after Christian bakeries, Americans need to go after this stupid lie.
Like I said, I’ve never worn a mask nor will I and I’ve never been denied access including Doctor visits.

Lawyer here. The Constitution does not protect face mask wearers or non-face mask wearers from policies prohibiting them from entering or doing business. You as a non-face mask wearer are not a protected class of persons against discrimination under the U.S. Constitution.

I think facemasks are basically useless and government mandates to wear them are stupid... but if a business decides they want to require them, they're within their rights to do so. I'm within my rights to choose to patronize another business that doesn't.

I'm still doing it and it has pros and cons. I miss getting out of the house some during the day. It's odd only interacting with dogs all day.

I love working from home on Monday though. Shittiest day of the week and I don't have to get out of my pajamas. Sign me up permanently

How many? I honestly don’t know.

I know of a few that have opened back up.

Confirmed: 50% of restaurants will never be back.
Estimated: 75% of straight up bar-only businesses will never be back.

That makes up a HUGE part of New Orleans economy and job market.

IF being able to walk around in public and smoke a j is that important to you, move to one of the many states that have legalized recreational marijuana. That number will go up a few more states after the November 3rd elections.

I can't walk down the street and drink a beer anywhere I want to either but I can drink in plenty of designated spaces without being bothered. No cops are going to raid my house because I'm at home drinking a beer. Don't know of anyone who's had their home raided for simply smoking weed in years... I live in New Orleans and regularly smell week out in the open right near cops when I walk around. Your freedom is not so treaded upon in that regard.

To your credit, you are consistent.

Many are not. They will say that while they disagree with mask requirements, a private business has the prerogative to make their own rules. Then they recoil in horror at the suggestion that a business should have the legal right to discriminate in the basis of race.

Early on in the pandemic you could make this argument because there just wasn't enough information regarding the effectiveness of mask wearing.

There has now been enough time and observational situations to show that mask wearing has an effectiveness. It shouldn't be the only safety precaution you take, but to argue mask are "useless" is just ignorant.

Yeah, that's not true. Hand washing/hand sanitizer and social distancing do more to curb transmission than anything short of a vaccine. People's behavior in those regards has changed since March. That's why spread of the virus slowed. People know you can't just be in everyone's face, hugging, shaking hands with anyone... and not washing your hands. Face masks look cool and they make you feel like they're doing something, and maybe to a minimal extent they provide some sort of protection... but acting like they provide 100%... or 50% protection... or even 25% protection... is not scientifically proven.

There are literally multiple scientific, peer reviewed and published studies before COVID that prove porous cloth masks don't do much anything to stop the spread of respiratory viruses.

I keep hearing about this supposed new evidence of their effectiveness. But where are the published, peer reviewed studies with the data? What percentage of protection do they provide? 50% effective? Even 25% effective versus not having one? Even an estimate of the degree of protection would be useful. No one can tell us. But Karens and libs are acting like they're 100% effective.

Pope Fauci and his minions can only say... "oh, hey guys. face masks work now." Prove it!

Then there's what these right-wing Trump supporter QAnon whackos (sarcasm) at the Oxford University Center for Evidence Based Medicine have to say about them, along with many other qualified scientists and health experts out there. But we have one little midget and a handful of douchebags in this country with a political agenda informing the media and public. Sad.
