You said the increase was 17%

So, that means the part quoted was $9000 and now they are charging $10,500.

What part is it??

Sorry, parts, plural. 22 total parts all increased.

So what were you planning to come out of pocket vs what they are asking you to come out of pocket now? Were you supposed to pay $9000 out of pocket and now they want you to pay $10,500 out of pocket? Cause that’s a lot just to cover OEM increase. Wouldn’t your car be totaled at that rate?

Also, you shouldn’t be paying any labor. Labor should be the same whether OEM or aftermarket.

In any event, most of these estimates have a timeline for when the quote is good for.

Cost went from around 11,375 to 12,850. Insurance is paying about 11,150 after supplement. Labor only went up 2 hours. Majority of increase was parts. So actually I am paying about $1700 out of pocket but I accounted for some of that prior because I opted for OEM parts versus what insurance would pay for.

Part prices increase constantly, especially if there is a delay in repair. It’s not the least bit unusual. Ask to see the parts invoice or call a dealership parts dept if you’re not comfortable with the increase.

Is this legal?

yes, estimates arent firm exact quotes so its in the fine print that all prices are estimated and actual cost may be different.

honestly i get why you are upset, but if its only 17% higher thats not bad at all and i would call that a good day

I handle all of our Body Shop Part orders and we always use OEM parts in place of Aftermarket parts as long as our cost is less than what is listed as the sale price on the estimate. We do not pass along any costs to the customer unless a used part is listed on the estimate and the customer wants new OEM. Even then we only markup 25% from cost and customer will pay the difference between the markup and what insurance will pay.

As for additional labor, we file supplement w/insurance company unless the we repair something not caused by the accident.

That's how we do things and probably why we're booking repair jobs 5 weeks out. We are slammed.
