Both kids are at UT Austin
Daughter has a signed 12 month lease on an apartment for fall 2020 through summer 2021 with a very restrictive cancellation clause

She has three online classes and one “pending” in person class in the fall

Son has four “pending” classes but has no lease. He is looking and there are a flood of sublets available so a buyer’s market

It is a difference of $15k for twelve months (Austin averages $1200/month rent around campus) versus living at my house and just paying tuition

apartment management are fighting tooth and nail to enforce pre-signed leases at all costs

We are on the hook as guarantors of the her lease

It is a shite sandwich for everyone

These institutions should be defunded anyway. The entire collegiate system needs to be investigated. They have ceased being placed of higher learning and have become mere indoctrination mills. And it’s why the Bernies and AOCs of the world want free tuition and for everyone to go to college and for admission standards to be lowered, so their minds can be further poisoned than they already were in their lives up until that point. College is just finishing school for left wing lunatics nowadays.

I’m seriously considering telling my kids to stay away from it when the time comes very far down the road. But shite, nowadays, it’s pretty fricking difficult to get a decent job without a diploma. By the time they’re college aged, a college diploma could mean nothing and they’ll need a masters or PhD in order to get a decent job.

Higher education in this country still has not had the reckoning and reconstruction it needs to be effective but it is coming.

Been saying it for years. We need to close more than half the Universities in this country, get rid of useless degree programs that provide no benefit to society, and open trade schools to build a competent and competitive work force throughout the country. We need to raise academic standards ,because we have way too many people on a campus who honestly do not belong.
