Your pic points out something I have yet to be able to figure out in the 10 years hence.

Other than perhaps getting some shoes wet in 2-3" of water when crossing Poydras, why in the world didn't the "stranded" masses in the Dome -- or those in charge who would lead them -- just walk on the bridge over Lasalle St. to and through the New Orleans Center to the neutral ground of Poydras, walk down to Howard, catch a left and in one block be on dry ground, with a choice of taking the ground-route out along the East side of the river, or over the bridge to the West side?

We used to walk from our Lee Circle area business to the Dome all the time. Stupid-simple walk back to civilization. I do not get it.

Great story.

The stories from my folks' neighbors in Quail Ridge were pretty interesting. Apparently one of em's kid decided to have a party for his junkie friends in his parents house after they evacuated...came outside while the eye was passing over thinking the storm had ended... Made a circle of gasoline around himself thinking somebody would fly over and rescue him... and then the "other" storm surge came and put out his fire right before Katrina Part 2 started up.

"other" surge = Some parts of E Slidell got it from 2 directions - First from the lake... and then up the Pearl river system. Rivers being closer to the homes caused greater damage.
