You'll have urges for a long time, but stay strong. You're doing the right thing for your health. I'm over 5 years of no smoking, but I still have dreams about it from time to time. Nicotine is a hell of a drug.

Thanks for all the advice. Day two hasn’t been bad so I was wondering if it gets worse and worse until finally it breaks.

I think it’s very much an individual experience. I tried to quit dipping about ten years ago after having dipped for around thirty years. First day was a breeze. By day three I was literally dreaming about it almost every time I fell asleep. I hung in for a few more days before saying F it.

Failure? Depends on perspective. What I have done is decrease my dipping to only two or three dips per week. I can accept that.

That’s kinda how I rationalized picking it back up. Along with “All things in moderation.”

I’m like a crack head going from store to store trying to find my Zyn stash. It’s rather sad.

Don’t do anything else that has nicotine in it.

I went from being a truck driver to working in an office. I did not have a choice but to quit smoking which was easy for me. I just decided i would buy copenhagen instead.

Dip is by far way harder to quit because I can do it literally anywhere I want.

Do folks who have lost their sense of smell and taste to Covid also lose their nicotine craving?

Both my parents smoked, I hated the smell. I would guess I still have nicotine in some of my bones from growing up breathing their dinner smoke.

Eight years ago, I dipped into drinking Beam-and-cokes all day instead of smoking and haven't looked back.

So you became an alcoholic? This is a terrible alternative.

Went from smoking a pack of cigarettes a day to quitting completely with nicotine patches. Used those for several weeks. Forgot about it after that.

Tried one Zyn a few months ago. Haven't tried another.

I am 52, have been dipping every day since I was 12. I have quit once for about 3 months. Only addiction I've ever had. I have had 11 surgeries and never had the need to continue pain medication. I drink, but not every day. I have never been able to kick dipping. It is the only thing I've never been able to walk away from. Maybe due to the fact that I don't want to. I just know that I should. You have to want to quit.

I quit a year ago after 25+ years of dipping. I used Chantix and had no cravings or issues. It was amazing, but some people have bad reactions to that drug.

I'm 13 months clean. I'm just getting to the point of not even caring about it. The cravings were bad a week. They were mediocre for 2 months after, mainly when getting up or after a meal.

I'm still smashing sunflower seeds.
You can buy a case of 12 bags of plain sunflower seeds on Amazon for $13.

I used nicotine losenges for a week or so.
Honestly they were awful which helped.

I also like the Terayaki shredded beef jerky but it's pretty expensive.

After the first 3 days the worst of the physical is behind you. Then the mental starts. I found myself reaching for my cigarettes occasionally after I quit.
Bananas won't fix the problem, but they can help reduce the cravings. Don't give up, the urges pass and soon it will be easy.

I was a heavy smoker for years and I have been free for 7 years now.
