Nah, reminds me when I used to live in GA and people tried to get me to eat boiled peanuts. Nothing nastier than a bag of wet nuts. Disgusting.

This is a staple of life in South Carolina. Coke in the original glass bottle, ice cold, with salted peanuts added. Especially on a hot summer day.

That was always the mid morning snack out in the hay fields.
I hated the hay fields.

Coke with peanuts
A Coke (or Pepsi) with a bag of Thom's peanuts dumped inside is a Southern staple that has been around since at least WWII.
My grandmother said it was a common quick lunch during the war for working women on factory lines, the Rosie the Riveter types.
My mother still indulges today. She loves telling the story about having a coke and peanuts on the bus on the way to give birth to me and how the doctor freaked out because her sugar was so high when she got there.
Loaded with sugar, caffeine and carbs .... it was the original quick energy drink.

quote:Cajuns made distinctive contributions to southern culture, no doubt, but this particular item is a mainstay of the middle-class white South, mainly because Pepsi was for poor people and blacks (there's even a book on that - The Real Pepsi Challenge: How One Pioneering Company Broke Color Barriers in 1940s American Business), though I suppose some infidels did put peanuts in Pepsies (yuck).

I don't know about the pepsi, but in my parts it was Coke or RC Cola.

Root beer and orange soda as well. I think Bobby Bowden was a yuge fan.

Yes she is. Louise is even hotter.
That Louise Mandrell is one piece of ace. I know from experience, dude. You know what I mean? Well, not me personally, but a guy I know. Him and her GOT IT ON! Wooo-eeee! No, no, no they didn’t. But you can imagine what it’d be like if they did, right? Huh? Huh?

In my part of SC, RC's and Moonpies go hand in hand.

I always heard people refer to the peanuts as goobers. They would drink a coke with goobers in it. I'm sure it's good, but I'll pass. Coke will clean battery acid corrosion off your connectors and posts. Not sure why anybody would want to drink it.
