I'm very sure in this case the shooter has to aim the barrel of the gun above the target being 2133 feet away.

Correct. He’s adjusting for bullet drop

In a hypothetical controlled situation where you get to watch the shooter and know you need to duck ASAP, sure, maybe.

If you’re not looking that way you’re cooked. And even if you are, if you haven’t already decided to duck or dive or whatever, you’ve got a split second to process that or you’re still cooked.

That’s also from seven football fields away

It's been a few years but I spent 15 years doing a lot of high powered varmint hunting at long distances and......I've never heard of a .260. wtf is a .260?

Its a necked down 308. Its not smaller than a 6.5, it uses a 6.5mm/.264 bullet. Its an old remington caliber that they screwed up on and never promoted. For all intents and purposes, its been replaced by the 6.5 creedmoor.

Yep. Bullet flies faster than the speed of sound. You'd be gone before the sound reached you.

Would have to be an extremely effective round to be better

It doesnt have much of a difference in energy or velocity than a 308, seems like it would.

It is a better design, easier to fit in a magazine. The 260 has marginally better performance, but is often to long to reliably feed in a mag fed rifle. Also, the super hype machine called Hornady hyped it up to be a laser beam. There are endless pissing matches involving these calibers, but that is the short story.

Better depends on the measure. The .260 wasn't designed around long range use, so the barrel twist is usually too slow and using heavy bullets usually makes it too long for a short action magazine. With a long action and a fast twist barrel it's one of the best, but you could argue it isnt even the same thing anymore at that point.

The 6.5 was designed with long bullets in mind, so there's less BS involved with it for long range use.

Now…imagine using 5.56 at 500 yards with iron sights. Marines are expected to hit 10/10 rounds on target for maximum points. Truth be told, since you’re shooting in a supported prone position, the 500 yard line was always the easiest to max out points. The round drops about 55 inches at 500 yards with a standard 200 yard zero and 62 grain bullet. With the correct 500 yard settings on the sights, your point of aim is at center mass of the target. Barometric pressure and wind will affect the rounds trajectory significantly at these distances. It wasn’t until my last year or two that we started using optics for qualifying. I don’t trust optics and always run back up iron sights, with a fixed front sight post.
