I am getting mail from a Law Office noting they are a debt collector for Gretna speeding camera ticket. I didn't think the companies that operate these things could technically collect or affect credit, but maybe I am wrong? I have for years heard stories of folks completely ignoring similar speeding camera tickets in other parishes and nothing coming of it. Anyone have experience specifically with Gretna? Educate me.

edit: ot poor/stupid/unfunny for a monday morning

Gretna cops have nothing to live for besides being dicks and trying to make peoples lives miserable. They probably teamed up with a lawyer that shares similar interest in life. Good luck. I say frick em. Dont pay it. Make the bastards chase you.

It's a civil fine. Why on Earth would you think they could do absolutely nothing about it?

The less right they have to collect on a debt the more aggressive they'll be in trying to do so. It's gonna suck for a while.

Way to protect and serve City of Gretna, you pieces of shite. You are providing such a valuable fricking service to citizens by taking away (in such a bull shite manner) their take home wages that they use to provide for their family.

Speeding cameras are nothing more than a punch in the gut to society. It's stupid shite like this that makes citizens despise government and law enforcement.

In Houston it was from civil court, not criminal court - hence why people would toss them in the garbage.

I got a camera speeding ticket in gretna (belle chasse hwy) 18 months ago. They will send it to a collection agency out of ohio (scheer, green, & burke & co.) if you dont pay. The collection agency will file a collection item on your credit bureau. When it showed up on mine (transunion only), i just contacted transunion and disputed the validity of the debt. It was off my report within 30 days.

Now if you park on public property in gretna, I dont know what their booting practices are when you have a ticket.

When you file a dispute in transunion, they only give you about 6 or 7 check boxes for the reason. I dont remember what box i checked, but in the notes section basically said i have never agreed to do any business with city of gretna, never owned property there, never agreed to owe them money; thus, the debt is not valid.
