I’m in Nashville and they are loud and splattering all over my vehicle
Do you have them in your area?

What are the redeeming qualities of Louisiana?
Not dealing with any cicadas here. Does that count?

They have come and gone here in east central Georgia. A couple weeks ago they were so loud you could hear them inside watching TV but now not a peep

We have this in New Orleans, well it’s not cicadas…

We have three different species with three different calls at my place in north AL. They were still singing loud right up until the rain showed up about 15 minutes ago.

Locusts are neat as hell, especially those red eyes

It's the once in 13 year cicada outbreak (or once in 17 years). This isn't normal.

They are going crazy here in Murfreesboro. The chirping noise is nonstop outside my window right now and they are everywhere.

The green ones are the annual cicadas. You'll see them to some extent every year, usually during the Summer months.

I don’t even think we have locusts in the us.
They are more of a giant grasshopper.
But when I was younger we called the cicadas locusts. Idk why.

I was in SWArky 2 weeks ago and the noise was miles and miles noticeable, even when driving.
Now, I have a bit of backwoods blood in me but my uncle was talking about recipes? Is that freaking normal? Can they be eaten or fixed as a delicacy?

Locusts are grasshoppers, but not all grasshoppers are locusts. Cicadas are cicadas. You have periodical and annual cicadas. All of the periodical cicadas in the US come "roughly" every 13 or 17 years, and they all have red eyes. The annual cicadas won't have red eyes, are more green in color, and they emerge every year.

Yeah, they can be eaten. I've never partook in such, though.

Every grasshopper can be a locust. They don't become locusts, or aren't considered locusts, until they form large groups, or swarms, and descend on crops.
