Chevy increased the powertrain warranty on this engine from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. That should tell you something

Doubt I would be in the minority

If there would be an overwhelming amount of people that would buy the truck that you described, don’t you think that some manufacturers would offer it?

Yeah, you are in the minority…

Ironically it is probably the best engine GM currently makes. They’ve been out since 2020 and are pretty devoid of major problems so far.

As crazy as this is going to sound, GM actually did a really good job designing and engineering that motor. They are tough and durable.

The motor is fine. Expect typical boomer responses in this thread. If you’re not going to tow anything it’s actually the right choice for most people. Also it doesn’t lack power. It will get up and go if you get on it. I’ve seen more issues out of the 5.3s than this motor.

Id take a half ton truck with a 1.4t volkswagen engine if it has a 10 speed and the right gearing. It would tow just fine occasionally if people could get past the false issue of the engine running at 4k RPM the whole time

And the 5.3 feels underpowered imo

It’s wild that a 350hp V8 is now considered underpowered. When the 5.3 came out in 1999 it was rated at only 270hp (or something similar) and was considered high powered. My 5.0 V8 in my 1989 Silverado had like 175hp

The cylinder shutdown is total bullshite and I’d never buy one. That’s the real problem.

The trucks are probably a lot heavier now too, with much bigger tires. All that adds up. A 200ho engine and a 4 speed transmission in a modern truck would be a mega turd. Youre absolutely right though, trucks today are ignorantly powerful compared to 20 years ago.
