Definitely sounds like Hiatal Hernia. Go see a Gastroenterologist.

This is the only correct answer in this thread. Ignore it and you deserve what you get.

know what else it sounds exactly like? Angina. I know which one I'd rather have ruled out first...

The only good advice you've gotten is to go see a doc. The rest is awful. Everyone will say hiatal hernia/GERD/anxiety etc because they or someone they know had that and they don't understand a differential diagnosis/work up. And yes, those things are in the differential for chest pain. But just assuming it's one of those when you're experiencing new onset chest pressure/pain is a BAD idea.

Hopefully that's all it is but you need to call your PCP yesterday and get the work up started or you need to go to the ED if it starts up again. Good luck.

You have AIDS. The cure is $180,000 of pure cash directly in to the blood stream.

Probably Heartburn

Follow up with a Doctor. If it gets bad go to the ER. If you don't have insurance go to the Lake. Insured go to the Baton Rouge General.

Urgent care will probabaly just send you to the ER

Why is everyone saying it sounds like a hiatal hernia? What is making you say that?

The OP gave a vague description of chest pain and somehow everyone has a diagnosis. It could be due to any number of things, benign or otherwise. The only sound advice is for OP to see his doctor for further help.

This. Don't waste your time/money at an urgent care.

I was more talking about the ones whose aunt had the exact same symptoms, so it must be (insert diagnosis here).

bout once a week I get this pain and it feels like someone is standing on my sternum. It happens mostly from about 1-3am and keeps me up for a couple of hours. Any of you have this problem or any remedies for it?

Could be a number of things (GERD, Hernia, heart disease). One of those can kill you. See a Dr. I can tell you from experience that if its not heart disease, there will be a huge relief. Then you have time to figure out the rest.

Let me summarize the good advice so far:
-see a doctor
-chest pain that is behind your sternum and can be described as "pressure" or "tightness" should be presumed as ischemic heart problem until proven otherwise.
-don't go to a doctor's office or after hours clinic with chest pain. they will call 911 and have you transported to an emergency room.

hopefully this helps. I'm sure you have heard of a healthy 50 year old dropping dead from a MI. they probably ignored a sign like you experienced. this is potentially a serious problem that shouldn't be ignored.

Keep waiting around for the big one and:

A) you'll be dead
B) you'll have ischemic cardiomyopathy with an EF of 15% and won't be able to walk to the bathroom without shortness of breath
C) you'll wind with emergency bypass surgery which may result in both A and/or B

Your symptoms fit unstable angina - you must see a doctor

After I had my gallbladder pulled, I developed GERD. It's not a heartburn feeling, but more of a tight pressure. It was worrisome at first because it made it hard to breath and can mimic a heart issue.

Do you notice any stomach distention when it occurs? If so, you probably have a food intolerance.

Also, if you're not noticing any of that, you could have obstructive sleep apnea. Regardless, I'd get a sleep study done.
