yeah it's crazy. I totally get that it's unnesacary right now. Hell 10mbs was a pipe dream when I was first online. I remember the first time I got a speed faster than 1mb.
26.6 and 52k modems to start, yet back then there was T1 and T3 offering Megabyte speeds, BUT it was useless to the consumer. Could you imaging having dial up in this day and age?
I remember websites taking forever to load with pictures, now I can download an HD movie in a couple of minutes. Songs are almost instant. When I was first on Napster it took about an hour a song and I had DSL.

So it seems Socialism is a good thing for internet speeds.
Private sector was and still is dragging arse on broadband. Their shtick is merge and consolidate, not be more competitive.

Lafayette, Kansas City (both) and Chattanooga leads the nation in Internet speeds. Crazy.

From what I've read LUS Fiber in Lafayette took a while but it's finally starting to make the city money.

Google Fiber is in one of those towns, right?

Big companies in the private sector are more interested in forming monopolies to starve out competition than to compete with each other.

It better I'm hearing they pay the guy that runs it like 400k a year. That's some serious coin for a city job.

I'm not sure how true that is but I do know they need to fire their entire marketing team.
They don't advertise any of the cool features, especially with their cable service. LUS DVR lets you rewind shows that you haven't been watching on certain channels and Cox does not. It's not every channel but I think like comedy central, you could turn your TV on at 10:20 and just rewind it back to 10 to watch the entire episode of the Daily Show, without having to set your DVR.
On the fiber side of internet, they should be really bragging it up about how much better they are than most of the rest of the country, but they just put up a few billboards. It's crazy that not everyone who could have Fiber internet doesn't have it.
