Do people really think this data is that easily purchased?

It's a symbolic gesture to draw attention to this shitshow, and it's working.

Exactly, it's a shame it isn't though.

Is it really working though? It likely won't change anything.

We'll see. Congress clearly tried to sneak this through, and now it's all over the internet. If it's too late to change the outcome, it might cause some of these clowns to lose their next election, and that's something at least.

To be clear, congress only stripped one agency from encroaching on the scope of another. They can still impose privacy restrictions if they choose.

I guess that depends on how much money you're willing to burn.

I'd really like to know.

Can anyone just call up Google and be like "I want Joe Blows internet history, how much do I have to pay"?

Is there a tier pricing system? Like the price goes up the more important the person is?

My history is boring.

I have trolled a few people who wouldn't generate much sympathy, but I still wouldn't want them to know my real identity.

Everyone who donates to this is going to be in for a surprise. The information is still anonymous, there aren't names attached to the data. Your ISP is going to sell the fact that you are a 20-30 Male that likes gun parts. Personal information will be stripped as selling that is still not legal.

tldr; He can't buy the Congress peoples information.

‘Cards Against Humanity’ Creator Just Pledged To Buy and Publish Congress’s Browser History'

@MaxTemkin also be wary of Kickstarters to buy this data, it doesn't exist and isn't for sale yet. Nobody knows what they're talking about. — Max Temkin (@MaxTemkin) March 28, 2017

comments from Reddit:

As far as I know, no. The telecommunications act explicitly prevents the sale of individually identifiable data (section C, part 1). This includes browser history.

Ding ding ding! Correct answer. It might be possible to determine identity based on certain data points, but you can't just order "Trump's search history" for example.

This dude on gofundme just made a killing off something he'll probably never be able to do

Saint, I really like you and respect you but you don't know shite about Chattanooga if this really is your opinion about it.

If I didn't have friends and family here in Louisiana, I would be strongly considering moving there.
