dealership cannot void warranty for work done at independent shops.

Yeah, I hear ya. I meant that if you're under a warranty where oil changes, fluid flushes, etc are free under 50k or 100k miles. I was fortunate enough to negotiate free preventive maintenance on my wife's Suburban up to 100k miles for tire rotation, oil changes and transmission fluid flushing. After that, I won't set foot in that dealership shop unless there's a recall.

It's always tough to find a good shop IMO

Very true. At any rate, good luck and I hope you get those issues worked out.

they're sold to the city as stripped fleet vehicles with stiffer suspension, transmission coolers and the big HEMI motors. Guarantee you i they're nowhere close to $80,000

It's bullshite misunderstanding of the costs. Even if you gave them subcompacts, they would need the reinforced cage for arrestees, computer, navigation and communication system.

Cops are not driving $80k MSRP vehicles - even their SUVs are fleet priced and reasonable out-the-door (the car makers want that business, because it's bulk and regular) before they have to get all LE equipped aftermarket.
