Within two years, five of them had transferred from Mt. Carmel to Chappelle.

Any insight as to why?

One complaint I heard from several parents and two teachers is that the Principal(Simno) was kind of bitchy and told the teachers to be very hands off with helping the students.
Some of the 8th-9th graders got kind of lost in their short time there and got behind. The teachers didn't seem to want to help.

Now I'm sure things have gotten better and some of these stories may have been just excuse making for some kids who couldn't cut it. Simno does seem to be "difficult" though.

All 3, Chapelle, Dominican, and Mt. Carmel are good schools, it all depends on which is the best fit for your daughter.

Mt. Carmel is the largest, and most competitive in all aspects. Intense school spirit. Almost "Sorority like" - with cheers and themes, costumes, etc. but the girls love it.

Chapelle is smaller, but I think their faculty has a more hands on approach.

Dominican has suffered the most with decreasing enrollment, while the other two are thriving. Dominican parents have said that administration has a left leaning, woke political agenda, but I do not have 1st hand knowledge of that.

My daughter is at Mt. Carmel and as a Junior, she has had girls transfer in from Dominican every single year.

As with most schools, you'll get out of it what you put in. If your kid is a good student, works hard, and cares - they'll do well and be prepared for college. It's all about personal fit.

Take the tours, go to the open house, let her make the decision and support her.

Mt Carmel all the way. I might be just a little biased. If she wants to be a lesbo send her over to chapelle.

I would venture to say they aren't far apart academically. The decision is who do you want your daughter networking with or do you even care? Neither school is full of criminals or anything but MCA will have more upper middle class to rich families who's kids will rub elbows with people in those tax brackets. Chapelle has more blue collar families. Like I said before, this distinction may not even matter to you. Do you want your daughter to date future Tradesmen from Rummel or future lawyers from Jesuit?

Again, I am not condemning tradesmen, just stating the difference between the schools.

Yeah, I can tell...

My daughter is at Dominican, I can tell you from first hand knowledge there's no woke political agenda... Where some of ya'll get this idea is beyond me.

Dominican's problem is that's it's a very difficult school and teachers don't to find the time to help students that are struggling, and there's zero programs to help those girls.

One of those being my daughter, she's passing, but has a very difficult time doing so. It's a very demanding school when it comes to academics...

If she likes days off because it drizzles outside then send her to Mt Carmel. They never freaking go to school. Couple weeks ago they were the only school in the city to shut down because it was supposed to rain. And when all schools take a day off, they always take two or three.

Do you not remember how bad that was in Metairie and most parts of the city that day? To be fair to Mt Carmel, they sit in a low area and it doesn't take much for those streets around there to fill up with water. I've seen the girls have to wade out to get to their cars several years ago. Not really a chance worth taking.

Did they ever fix the streets/parking situation over there? Heard it was a shitshow towards the end of last year and there was a short time that the parking lot was inaccessible.

Yes, I do. And both of my kids went to school. My son is a Jesuit and my daughter is at Dominican. The excuse they use is that they have so many kids from the North Shore so they don’t want them traveling on rainy days. Like other schools don’t have kids coming in from the North Shore.??

Ok, does them closing and doing remote work for a day or two really something that should influence what school you choose?

Surprisingly it’s much better. Wamsley is finally finished, Burdett and Pine Street are drivable again. Much better than last year… Still have a lot of work to do on surrounding streets though, I guess they wanted to get the streets by the school done.

I use to kid my daughter about it might be finished by the time she graduates.

My sister went to Chapelle and loved it. Dean's list in college and had a full ride.

I'm a firm believer that parent participation is what makes a student great .. not the school. Whatever school the parents are confident with the curriculum is the best choice.
