Forgive my ignorance but what the hell is WD40 going to do to make the fan speed up?

We tried and tried because I loved the fan. Yeah just save your time and pick out a new fan.

They probably don't make flux capacitors anymore for that model fan.

I wouldn't mess with a capacitor...that is an electrical storage device that can shock the absolute shite out of you if you don't know what you are doing....

and no, I wouldn't start spraying WD40 all over the thing.
