Back in the day I used one a good bit on this beer run. You see, this rich man placed to bet to see if a buddy and I could transport 400 cases of Coors beer from Texas to Georgia within 28 hours. My buddy drove the big truck and I drove the chase car. We used a CB to communicate with one another during the trip. One trick we used was to switch to different odd-numbered CB channels to avoid being tracked by law enforcement…ahh, good memories

Very popular back in the late 80s and early 90s before cellphones.

Yep. Me and my buddies all had them in our vehicles. "Group chats" every morning on the way to school.

Also had the hidden PA system under the hood so you could holler at people.

I use a Galaxy 66v3 and have a 6' Firestick antenna. I get about 4-5 miles range on it. Not too many of us OTR guys have em anymore, several factors drove everyone away. There's been a huge influx of DX radio dickheads that can talk across giant swaths of the country that have absolutely nothing interesting to say yet wont shut the hell up - so everyone turns their radios off because we can't talk over them.
This is the radio I'm using right now:
