Wonder what fee Entergy will tack on to its customers after this outage.

I enjoy energy deregulation in TX and cheap electric

a barely related but anecdotal story.

a few years back i was working in IT for a school district. i was in the deer blind the day after thanksgiving and my boss called that all the power was down for the district and all email and other super unimportant shite that people shouldn't care about on Thanksgiving break was down. He asked me to head back early and I could take Monday off.

so i go get my arse chewing from my wife and we pack of the kids and head back home. i get them settled and go up to the school. it's about 25 degrees out. i get into the server room and it's well over 100. all of our AC and vents died but the servers came back up. so 100+ servers and things of network equipment up, but no AC. i finally get somebody from maintenance over and get them to start looking at it. shut everything down so it would cool off until AC came back on.

ended up losing 2-300k of servers. finally maintenance gets it back on and asks me to come outside. they point to a singed squirrel. lying on the ground. it had gotten a good bite and managed to trip the breakers and take out the whole building.

TL;DR

squirrel bit power line and took down my entire network and cost us 100s of Ks worth of network equipment and servers due to overheating. bastard died though so at least i got that bit of karma.
