The name of the machine alone is a joke. These things should be thrown on the trash heap of history. They are simply a tool to allow an interrogator to pressure someone being interviewed. For starters, the person being interviewed has to believe in the machine for it to work. The worst thing, if you don't believe in the machine and want / need to pass the test then your anxiety will display the same as if you aren't being "truthful". All the machine does is monitor changes in your physical state. No real science can show the difference between physical changes from being nervous versus telling lies.

And the kicker? A psycho will pass a test with flying colors every time because they don't display emotion like a sane person. Meanwhile, a really conscientious person who wants to be 100% truthful won't do well because they want to do well and are worried the machine might frick then over.
