My health could be worse & I've lived a great life, until 2014. Sucks fellas.
Anyway, after 4 cardioversion, 2 heart cath’s, 2 nuclear stress test, multiple echo cardio grams I’m finally approved for a Cardiac Ablation.
Anyone been through this surgery? Expectations after recovery? Basically I’m ready to feel better.

Gonna be having it done in the next year or 2. Been on the table for about 5 years now. Had an episode in October where I went into a-fib for about a week. I had a TEE where they saw what they thought was a clot (it wasnt) and went in for cardioversion and I coded on the table.

Bout time for the next step. My 5 congenital heart defects are catching up to me

Good luck!

I had one about 5 years ago. Back to work 2 days later. Doctor said I was cured. His word. Still have a-fib once in a while but much better

Had it done at 16 for tachycardia. Used to have 5-10 episodes a day. Now I get about 1/year.

I’ve put many patients to sleep for them and done the cases anesthesia wise. They all seem to do well post op except for having to lay flat for awhile.

What was your arrythmia?

I had an ablation back in 2014 for frequent pvcs. They did an echo and determined im not at high risk for any issues or sudden death, so it was a quality of life thing for me. Best decision I ever made because my heart has been in normal rhythm for about 5 years now after suffering for 2 years.

Recovery wasn’t bad. Back at work two days later. You have to lay flat afterwards for like 5 hours and then you’re fine. You’ll take aspirin to prevent clots for a few days afterwards. You may have some increased ectopic beats due to irritation, but it will heal.

Every now and then they don’t burn it all or a new spot acts up and a 2nd is necessary.

Pops just had it this weekend. Hardest part for him is probably waiting before he can hit the golf course again.

“SHAPE!”

I’ve been told yelling that at a team playing makes them think you know a lot about the game.

Glad the procedure has been positive for you.

My daughter had SVT and had cardiac ablation done twice in 6 months, when she was 13 yrs old...first time the Peds EP doc did it. She was under for 4.5 hrs. Peds EP doc did cryoablation (takes longer, but is statistically a bit safer). About 3 months after the procedure, the SVT reared its ugly head again. Went back to doc and she said needs to have it done again...this time, she brought in adult EP and he knocked it out in about 2 hrs. He used the RF ablation which, although is a bit riskier, was quicker and more permanent. She hasn’t had and issues in last 3 yrs (knock on wood). She is a soccer player and 1 week later, played 3 games in 3 days at a tourney. The only reason you have to take it easy for a few days is for the catheter incisions to heal.

I had the Cryoablation procedure done in February of’16. Prior to that I was going into Afib almost every day. Prior to that, I was in good shape and exercised daily. Once the episodes of Afib started I couldn’t go up a flight of stairs without going into Afib.

When I woke up from the procedure I felt different. Going into Afib puts so much stress on your body it makes you feel horrible pretty much all the time. I haven’t gone into Afib since the procedure. I was a bit younger than most when it happened. It started for me when I was around 41.
