Depends on how the pension is set up. My pension requires I pay into social security for the 30 years I’m required to work then when I turn 63 or 65 I get both my pension and social security.

Some pensions don’t require members to pay into social security but those people don’t get to collect SS.

At the end of the day, I think we all agree whether you get a pension or not - if you contribute money out of your annual/monthly paycheck for the majority of your career for the promised payout down the road - you are entitled to that annuity. SS was not created to be a tax on society for the government to manipulate like a Ponzi scheme and ultimately change course. Hard earned money was taken away vs being re-invested without an option (I might be too young but could you opt out of SS)?
