Antanic Magazine article

Can you create your goosebumps by simply thinking of them. Close your eyes and try? I am so curious how many people can.

I just learned that many people cannot create them just by simply thinking. I thought everyone could.

In my case i have found it useful when I have back pain. It I relax and close my eyes I can create goosebumps.

But the main reason I do it because it somehow breaks up the pain signals and seems send a wave of endorphins (or something) that feel like they are flooding my aching spine with something like WD40 and anesthetic. It releases the tightness and control the pain has.

Is there anyone else who can cause their goose bumps and how does it feel to you and why do you do it?

Did you read the article. It is pretty interesting.

"For others, getting goose bumps requires concentration but no particular emotional reaction. “I always have to close my eyes. I try to do it without closing my eyes and I can’t,” said Eliza Bacon, .... She experiences it as a tingling sensation that begins at the back of her head and spreads through her scalp and body.

For (others)... inducing goose bumps is no more difficult than moving an arm. He did note one difference, though: It takes time for his goose bumps to recharge. “I can do it again,” he said after showing me his goose bumps over Skype, “but it’s just like losing power and I have to wait around 10 minutes.”

Brenna Mickal, a college student in Louisiana, told me something similar. “If I do it twice in a row, I have to concentrate more the second time,” she said. And if she tries and fails, it actually feels uncomfortable—like having to sneeze but being unable to.

None of the people I spoke to associated controlling goose bumps with especially negative feelings. It was even positive in some cases. Mickal says she feels a warmth spread through her body and uses it to warm herself up when cold. Bacon says she uses it to alleviate headaches."

There is also similar research about people who get goosebumps from music and how their brains are wired more intricately in certain ways.

If nothing else this is certainly something that could be of interest to people with some chronic pain issues.

Well when I’m having relations with your wife she doesn’t seem to have control of the goosebumps.

Wait,

I can do it pretty easily. I just think of a Saturday night in Death Valley. Fully corked. As the band lines the end zone for pregame. The moment the band starts going from bent over to upright in a line. I just think of that moment. Instant goosebumps.

11 out of 10 times somebody puts on a song, lifts their forearm & says “this still gives me goosebumps” all I see is a hairy forearm.

You're in luck. Yoga is back.

The weirdest? No, maybe one day though. My goal in life is to shoot for eccentric but I'm happy with weirdo too.
