Did y'all here about some students at UT that held a cookie sale on campus? The prices were:

$0.50 for black people
$1.00 for white people

The black students on campus freaked out hollering raciss!

Cheaper rent?

Seems like this would be offset by higher insurance rates.

I have noticed this in BTR particularly. I credited it to bringing more customers into the convenient store with gas price as a leader.

Converse, In Zachary, Jetts Shell is $0.25 a gallon higher than Exxon and Murphy but has no shortage of customers...

Gas stations make very little profit margin on gas sales. They make the most money on the stuff inside...food, drinks, tobacco, alcohol, etc.

In nicer areas, most people pay at the pump with a credit card and never go inside store. So gas station has to try to make a little bit more on their gas sales to offset the credit card swipe fees and make up for fewer people going inside to spend money on higher margin convenience store items.

In poor areas, most people are paying cash and have to go inside. Then once they're inside the store, they buy candy, drinks, alcohol, tobacco, fried chicken, etc that the gas station makes higher margins on.

ETA: Truck stops in the middle of nowhere along the interstate do the same thing...lure you in with cheap gas prices because they know travelers are likely to go inside and buy drinks and snacks for the road.
