I'm not sure how they handle umps but I don't recall any exchanges of cash to umps.
your vision is probably blocked by the sponsor banner.

I just pulled the FASA site (didn't look at USSSA) but all tournaments were listed at $100 or $150.
$600 times 12 kids is $7200
$150 times 16 tournaments is $2400
We may have a mom that works for a print shop, bc she's always getting hoodies and stuff. So maybe they get a nice deal on uniforms. I have no clue. Also I believe 4 of those 16 tournaments were free entry. That's plenty of money to cover everything.
yea thats not a bad deal...not familiar with softball side
we pay 1750, that covers the 2 paid coaches, 2 fall tournaments, 10 spring tournaments and field rentals and local world series
doesnt cover uniforms or out of town world series.

Fetching sponsors for such a low budget activity is pretty bad.
It’s not about the money. It’s about being able to tell people you have ‘sponsors’. I know many adults like this that will get ‘sponsors’ for their hobbies.

baseball is that it puts the spotlight on the batter, pitcher, or fielder. In other sports like football, basketball, or soccer, a kid can hide on the field. It’s hard to hide in the batter’s box.
You can only say “ it’s a moving round ball on a round bat” so many times in life. I keep thinking it’s gonna get better.
But in football or other sports, I am not sure she knows if they are in the games.

sure, but i'm also educating you. fasa is $45 pay at the plate per game. tournaments usually are 4 games guarantee. Lets say your team averages 5 games a weekend. That's $375 per tournament cost minimum. That's before supplying balls etc that absolutely cost money.

You can tell me as much as you want. It doesn't change the fact that they absolutely do not do this regularly. It's entirely possible that they pay umps out of the massive gate fees they make, or from the million dollar concession industry they have going on. Our coaches do not pay umpires pre game though. And I coached travel baseball and never did this as well (that was close to 10 years ago though).

well tournaments cost money to host so I dont mind paying as i know the fields cost, staff cost, clean up etc
Each team pays a fee to enter the tournament. That cost is what goes to renting the fields. Then each team has to pay the umpires. This is why teams charge players $1500/yr to play. The gate fee does not go towards that. The gate fee usually goes mostly to a charity. So Perfect Game, and USSSA, and 2D can all collect a bunch of money to donate and use as a tax write off. It's a crock of shite. The gate fee doesn't go back into the organizations or to the fields they are playing on.
And we are playing on public fields that my taxes already go towards to help maintain.

you just said you played in fasa. its right there on fasa's event pages, they dictate the PAP cost. nearly 100% utrip is no different. its PAP.

My 13 year old is playing his first year, now that rec is done for him. It was a little over a grand which was for 7 tournaments including some type of local WS deal. First sons team was more than that but they played a good ways out a lot, DFW and HOU.
I am not looking forward to this weekend, as he has a whole lot to improve on. I’m just going to try to relax and try to help him be as successful as he can

i understand all that but have never heard of it going to charity except the toys for tots. gate fee is usually how the director makes their money.

see im opposite...i really really enjoy watching them play. They love it and even when they dont do good i really enjoy it. Also cant wait until my oldest first track meet.
i dunno i really do enjoy watching them compete because they love it. I try and do a good job of chillin and not getting worked up too much. my dad was way over the top with things so i try to just let them know their identity is not wrapped up in any sport they play and that I love watching them play no matter what.
now i do hate both boys play this weekend and we will have to split up. that always sucks.

It's also promotion for the businesses.
And everyone gets to see social media status like "support local business who supports local baseball team, big business does not do that"

See it a lot now where parents are having young kids focus on one sport year round. It’s really stupid, imo.
I had several parents try to give me grief about my son playing 3 sports in HS. I told them to mind their business. It was his HS career and this is what he wanted to do. He had to stay on honor roll
He also played a lot of travel ball growing up and won a 15 year old and 16 year old WS for Dixie Youth. Ironically, he played soccer in college.

Most travel ball touraments these days have gone to relatively low team entry fees, pay at plate umpires, and high gate fees. The tournament directors know most people are bad at math, and will look at a low team entry fee and think that's the tournament they want to go to, even thought they and their parents will end up paying a lot more by Sunday night - especially if the team is good.
