Keep your eye out for a pair of Boston Acoustic A400’s. I’d gladly buy them if the price is right.

I once found a pair of Acoustic Research AR-3’s for $300. Sold for $1600

Are you typically at these estate sales right at opening? Do you have the same “competition” that you see every weekend?

If I’m off and the sale looks promising, I will go at opening. I like the sales where the house is full of shite, not some clean estate with grandma’s crystal figurines. I like the sales where I need a tetanus shot when I’m done.
The sale today went all weekend long. I had to work, so I couldn’t make. Today it was basically make a pile and an offer.

I do see the same people at most sales.

If you really want to start making some money start a YouTube channel of your garage sale adventures. Show going through some items. Haggling with the owners. Then dicuss four finds when you get home. What you paid and what your hoping to get. Update with some pieces that already sold and what price.

This guy does it but mostly toys, comics, video games.

Are you sure the mortar is granite?

To me it looks more like marble. (Which is a lot easier to carve than granite0
Two marbles come to mind:
Carerra the really good stuff from Italy
A marble from northeast Alabama that's currently being used for tombstones in Veterans' Cemeteries.

The value of those E diesels depends quite a bit on whether the steps are broken (they often are and there is a premium for one with all the original steps). I see the locomotive is missing one. I didn't check the B unit picture.

Your trains have the wider radius track, which may help the track group sell. When I buy a postwar set with original track, I tell the seller not to ship the track (unless the track goes with a boxed set).

If you find green/yellow Western Pacific, orange Allstate, or solid green Penn Central versions of those diesels you've made a solid find.

ETA: Your feedback is interesting, and high for someone who sells a wide variety of items. Years ago, I was on an eBay study group to review and comment on the FB system. One finding was that a seller was far more likely to have 100% positive feedback if they sold items in one subject area (for example, model railroading, toys, etc.). They tended to have more regular customers. Those who sell a wide variety of items have a risk in running into some jackass. We also weren't fans of neutral or negative FB that was posted without a comment.

I am just going by two other auctions that have the same mortar, just the sizes are different. Some one has a 12” and 14” mortars. They are asking $700 and $500 for them. Mine had the exact same markings, made by Thomas Maddock & Sons.

I got my first negative feedback in 10 years last month because some old fricker in New Orleans got mad that eBay charged him taxes, and I wouldn’t give him a discount, to make up the difference.

I’ve had three negative feedbacks in 20 years.

I did the YouTube thing for a little while, but it’s way too much work. I follow Froggy Flips. He is probably the best on YT, for what he buys. It seems to me that Ohio and Northern California has the best garage sales. There’s a guy called Part Time Picker, when he is picking in the SanFran area, there are some great garage sales.

I display them in the office (I rotate what is on display).

At Christmas, for the first time in 30 years, I had a small operating layout of standard gauge trains. These trains are 90 years old, but are big enough that they are not damaged or depreciated in value when you run them.

Each of those three sets has a mechanical bell ringer, so they are very loud.

Should I list the empty box? It is the box the Rock Island train set came in. It was sold at Walgreens. It’s pretty brittle from sitting in a Louisiana attic for 25+ years.

I wondered why that asshat was bitching about not getting a small amount off the price. His feedback narrative made no sense. I thought he was made about you not accepting an offer, which was an odd FB given that he bought the item. Now, I realize his logic: "You said you would accept offers, so why not accept one AFTER I win to cover the sales tax."

Is it brittle but intact? Would it ship without getting damaged?

I love this thread but it's getting difficult to follow. It needed some reserved post, with a new post made for each day you bought new stuff. It's kind of hard to follow the progress.

The old fricker msg me thru eBay, saying he refuses to pays taxes, asked me to list it on FB marketplace, so he could avoid the taxes. I told him I have nothing to do with the taxes, I don’t get this money, and it’s against eBay policy to do transactions outside ebay and they monitor msgs on their site. I could get suspended for even talking about it. I told him to just consider the taxes when making an offer. He didn’t understand what I was saying.

I do post photos of recent things I’ve bought, and leave the photos up for about a week, but I delete the photos when I post photos of my more recent purchases, so the OP won’t be a mile long.
I do post photos of the items that sold and leave them up.
It seems pretty clear to me.
