Model trains are not my field of expertise, even though I consider myself a vintage toy expert. I do know that vintage Marx trains aren’t even in the same class as vintage Lionel trains. I see Marx trains quite a bit, and pass on the 99% of the time.

Marx in nice condition will sell. The market has really changed. There wasn't as much money in Louisiana as on the East Coast, so old Marx sets are around here. Any nice set with any version of the plastic diesels similar to those you just sold will do decently. The late production stuff (early 70's) has some desirable items (look for the ones below):

This specific color combo is rare:

I couldn't get the photo to link but an orange flat car with two green farm tractors is rare. Other color combos are not. The "deluxe" plastic cars ( such as the ones you have) with operating spotlights or search lights is desirable if it has the lenses. Military trains of any age are desirable. Original loads on cars that had loads are important.

These (with or without a white stripe) with all steps are very desirable, nice boxed ones exceed $600

Any part of this set (in these colors and marked Western Pacific):

Any of the components of this group:

It really makes me want to give it a try. I'm up early as shite on the weekends anyways and I've had a lot of success selling shite on FB marketplace.

ETA: I had the same feeling when I decided to try sportsbetting. That account currently sits at $0.

I hate to be a troll, but splitting your money up in this sort of “challenge” invalidates the integrity of the idea imo. You should really keep it all together and only have one listing at a time, so as each new purchase is all or nothing.

Basically you should need to get larger and larger purchases to make it and sell quickly to have time to make it.

Example:
$1 sells for $11
$11 used to buy something that’s $8 sells for $40
$40 used to buy something that’s $25 and takes 2 weeks so you drop it from $200 to $100.
$100 used to buy something that $80 and sells for $400
Etc

Eta: I’m sure I’ll get downvoted and that’s fine. But turning $1 into 10,000 hustles to finally get $8,000 is a lame game imo. It’s not even a challenge. If you make a bad purchase it really doesn’t affect you and having multiple things for sale at any given time makes it incredibly easier

I posts photos and price I paid for everything, but take the photos down after a few days, to keep the op from getting too long.
I do leave up the photos of the sold items and what I paid for them.

Not sure how you says it invalidated. If you have been following the thread since the beginning, you would know everything I have for sale and sold, we’re all bought off the profit of the golf flag, snowballed by selling more items.

The photos of the sold items are in order they have sold.

Everything I have for sale is a bad purchase until it sells.

That’s why I have nearly $2000 in sales, but only made $1000 in cash so far.

What you don’t get is that everything I have for sale was paid for with profits of other items I sold, and they were bought with the profit for the golf flag, which I only paid 50¢ for.

Because the idea of this game normally is you can only own one item at a time. Buying and selling multiple items at any given time is makes it extremely easy.

All you are really doing is “can I make $6000-8000 in 2 years”

You need to finish the sentence

All you are really doing is “can I make $6000-8000 in 2 years” from buying one item for $1 (actually 50¢)

I’m busting chops I don’t really care.

I’m simply stating the normal idea behind ‘can I turn this into that’ is a trade. You start with a pen and trade it for a ball, you take the ball and trade for a glove, you trade the glove for a bat, you trade the bat for something else.

If it’s that easy and lame, why don’t everyone do it? It takes some knowledge and a small gambling nerve to do it.

I’m just saying it’s a different game than I’d expect from the title. But hey you enjoy it and hopefully get a trip from Japan so you are right you win. I’m just busting your chops

That’s not what I’m doing. I even stated in the op two months ago, how I was going to do it. Actually your way would be easier to do and cheat at.
If I did it your way, I could buy a ton of items (like I have), and just pick the one I will make the most profit. This would not include my losses.

I could have said I bought the flag, made $12

Bought the KC lights, made $33

Bought the socket set, made $100

Bought the Bose System, made $100

Bought the Pet Shop, made $175

Bought the dolls, made $300

That would be cheating. I’m showing my wins and possible losses.

I get that, and again I don’t want to be a grinch so I’ll stop.

But to do what you are doing the only difficult part was buying something good for $1. Once you had $10, you are just buying a bunch of $5-20 items and hustling.

It’s a solid game.
