So i paid the fee to take the test. It sends you to a page that has 2 buttons.
1. "Take the Placement - The placement assessment will tell you what topics you need to review"
2. "Learning Module - If you need to review material for the course, proceed to ALEKS learning. You will be given the opportunity to practice the necessary prerequisites"

#2 is unclickable. when you try to click on it, it tells you take the assessment first.

I know I need to brush up on some stuff before I take it. So why can't I just start in the learning modules first? They say you can only take it 3 times. Don't wanna waste the first try lol

Isn't it going to guide you based on what you miss in the assessment?

ETA: I'm old, so things might have changed...but I regret testing into 1550 my first semester. I didn't really need to since physics 1 for majors isn't/wasn't Calc based.

For engineering it may be required to stay on track for a 4 year graduation...in that case really study between attempts 1 and 2.

Can't help the OP but ^^^ is what my son is trying to do (but 270 at ULL). He needs one more point in math on his ACT to test in BUT I keep gently suggesting that he needs to brush up/freshen up the precursor math classes. He's considering engineering.

Same here. Was not ready for it. Made 2 W's and a C in that class.

pretty sure that's what it's trying to do. guess I'm trying to circumvent the system, lol. I might just study on my own for a bit, then take it.

I'm 37 (hence the "brushing up" lol)

It is for eng. and that's exactly why i'm trying to test out. If I can't or realize it might be better just to take 1023, I'll prolly just catch up by taking a summer class at some point

Just make sure he gets the right teacher. Had a snooty engineering type guy and then a chinese guy i couldnt understand, finally a pretty good teacher that i could halfway understand. Made all the difference.

i was a science major so that was the only math i had to take. Just wanted to knock it out.

You gotta make a 70 to be able to take 1550. I'll study a bit and take it. That first time might tell me which route to go. If I make a 20, Algebra it is! lol

His choices will be limited with him going to summer school ... regardless of which math he gets into.

To the OP, go the refresher route. I'm nearly 47 and geeze couldn't imagine going back right now. Good luck!!

(What are you thinking of for your son's birthday gift??)

I took it once in summer. thought it would help to have only that class, but 5 hour class shortened to a summer semester was rough.

good luck to him.

Thanks!

Definitely something for outside like you suggested or that box drum thing. Maybe a nice soccer goal. Saw one that had an electronic target that lit up when you hit it. Trying to get him into sports more and move a little away from dinosaurs & action figures

At that time, 1992, they put everyone who tested into 1550 in one class. I went to a bullshite private catholic school, Menard in Alexandria, and apparently the other students had been exposed to it...I barely had trig, barely meaning my teacher didn't know trig to even set it up for us.

I ended up needing an 86 on the final to make a C...I worked the book over a two day period and aced the final. I just wish I had taken it one semester later and gotten acclimated with college and maybe had less on-it classmates.

FYI they've got a really good tennis team this year. Hosted a round robin type thing at our school last weekend. They were really good.

We won state when I was a freshman there. We had some incredible players. I was last on the team, #2 doubles, but hell at least I made the team. Good times.

I just picked tennis up again, I quit in my Jr yr to play soccer again, and people are amazed how well I hit the ball. I can't even explain to them how much I practiced as a kid, they wouldn't believe me anyway.

I'll put it this way ... my son is senior; not sure if he'll play singles or doubles yet at regionals BUT I can say I'm glad Menard isn't in our region!!

Who's their coach, and do know what club he's from?

We would have won state my sophomore year as well but a 14 yr old kid beat both of our top ten ranked in the state u18 yr olds. His name was Zach and I think he was from Lafayette, ended up playing for a bit at LSU before going pro, unsuccessfully. Our 1 doubles won state, I was still 2 (we won 1 match), but damn that little kid beat our 2 full on senior badasses.

Your junior division adviser failed you by not telling you that you could switch into another section.

Advisor? I thought we picked classes at spring testing. I can't remember back that far. I went there from 92-00 so I made plenty more mistakes than that class choice.
