Looks like it's coming down to Roger vs Cooter.

Both make very compelling cases.

Because I disagree on some points doesn't mean he's wrong, it's 100% personal preference

Also remember most professional reviews are bought. You really have to educate yourself on the features before even trying to analyze. I studied for a year on features alone before buying my first camera. I'm just saying there are incredible options out there.

The wifi in a camera in more so you can connect your phone to the camera when it's on a tripod.

For transferring files to a Mac or PC it is preferred to use a wired connection for faster speeds. Of course, getting a USB dongle for the memory card works best for the file transfers.

She wants it which is fine but she doesn't understand the purpose of the use of it.

Absolutely.

Once you buy the camera, your into the whole ecosystem which can get expensive.

I will say my opinion is to avoid cameras that come out with a new sequence every year or two, because they're getting you to buy a new body when software updates work. My current camera model came out 4 years ago but the update the software (AF etc) constantly for free.

I thought the wifi connection was a cool feature when I first bought my camera. I quickly learned that it's value is small. Transferring to a phone is nice on occasion, but if she is really into photography, she'll be taking way too many photos to do that efficiently.

True but I use mine mostly to pop an image over to the iPad when I am out at a shoot so I can review before moving to the next series. Shots that look good on the camera screen can turn out to be crap when viewed on the larger iPad screen. I can say that, personally, I will never buy another camera that lacks the WiFi/Bluetooth capability for just this reason.

Understood. Just making sure the OP knows the various uses of wifi in a camera.

I only use it as a remote and that's still rare. I could easily do without. I've also never used geotagging

I've used that Nikon quite a bit while hiking/hunting in CO with some friends and I loved it. I actually recently purchased one with the 18-140mm Nikon lens and a separate 100-400 Sigma lens and I'm ready for it to get here. Nice camera for a good price and the specs are solid.

There’s a shitload of astroturfing in photography.

You really have to research for a while to find honest opinions and then get your hands on and shoot yourself.

Someone who wants to e-fight to protect the honor of their system is probably either a trolling fanboy or one of the people brainwashed by these paid reviewers. I hate to see it become a Ford vs Chevy thing.

Anyone who is genuinely into photography just wants people to be out shooting and perfecting and enjoying the craft. I’ll give advice as it is requested and I have my own opinions but ultimately it’s a personal preference and I say just go shoot whatever you like.

Same. Only use it for the remote when I am tripodding shots I want to be in.

I upload by wire or by just taking the SD card out and putting it in my laptop. It’s muuuuuch faster that way.

I can see the utility of popping them over to an iPad to insta-review on a larger screen though. Photos DO look much different on a larger screen and shots you thought were good can actually be crap. BUT I don’t personally own an iPad so I’ve never done that. Not a bad idea though.

I just don't want to carry my iPad in the woods

The EVF does a great job of translating what you see into what you'll get though

Have you ever seen the amount of gear the ullllllltra telephoto bird guys lug into the bush? Lol And I get bitchy about the weight of a crop-sensor and a 200mm prime. They’re bringing a 30 pound monster lens & teleconverter with a collar a huge tripod and a computer with a backpack full of supplies.

The cooter solution has been implemented. Total was $1053.95 with a camera bag and two memory cards.

Thanks everyone!

I chose Canon over Pantex simply because she used a Canon years ago.

Consider the Canon 80D. It's a crop sensor, but has great autofocus, fast frames per second shooting speed, and good dynamic range.

I have a Sony A5100 that syncs with my iPad after taking pictures. I like that feature and use it every time

Go with a mega-zoom crossover so you don't have to worry about all the lenses. You will end up using it more and it is a great all around camera that produces fantastic photos. Panasonic FZ-2500 is a fantastic camera. I have used the Panasonic FZ line for about 10 years now and they are hard to beat. FZ-1000 is a great camera as well if you want to save some money.

Any DLSR from Nikon will be a winner.
You may not want to buy from Best Buy but this is a good deal. <$1k but isn't full frame.
LINK

I have a D300, d40 , d40x, Canon eos40d and a Pentax k200d.
The Nikons have always had the best performance.

I bought all of these around 2007 so I can only assume the technology has gotten better.
