Failing it twice though.....there may be a serious problem. If she can take it again, she may want to get into a prep class or something.

You stomped out your wife's dreams. Your wife, the person you're supposed to love more than anyone in the world.
Luckily for her, what she settled for is still a great job. And you bitch and whine about how hard it was for YOU.
If we're the douches, i'm not sure a term exists that accurately describes the POS pussy that you are.

A lot of the stress involved with OBGYN residency is the attendings and residents all being massive counts.
This.
And it's the same story almost everywhere that you go.

My wife would have done a Gyn-Onc fellowship if I'd allowed. Told her I was done moving and shed have to go by herself. And I was keeping the baby. So she is joining a private practice instead.
She's an amazing surgeon tho. Won some awards with her residency for it.
And now she's going to resent your for the rest of her life...

There are 2 types of people in the Caribbean medical schools. Those that are super bright but lazy and are able to do very well when properly motivated and/or finally mature after they realize they are no longer in college. They didn't make the grades well enough to stay in the US, get their MCAT up a few points or wait another year for a spot. These will eventually be fine and go on to have successful medical careers. Then there are those that just plain don't have the necessary mental skills that are required to be able to absorb mass amounts of information and regurgitate it. They tend to be hard working, yet just don't quite get it. Unfortunately, these are the ones that leave the Caribbean with a massive amount of debt and no residency to show for it and are the same ones that US medical schools try to prevent from slipping through admissions into their class.
It's going to be extremely difficult for someone who went to the Caribbean AND failed Step 1 twice to get any residency in the US.

Emergency Medicine is very competitive. She should probably just try to get an IM spot somewhere and work hard...assuming she can pass Step 1.

He wasn't referring to the competitiveness of er vs im.

I also went to a Carribean Medical school and I also failed the step one twice. I decided to watch the "Tony Danza's 5 steps to step 1" DVD box set and I was able to pass step one with colors flying. My score was so high that I landed as resident in NYC for nuclear laser surgery. Now I am making a million dollars a year building space ships.

Looks like your dreams of being the power couple are gone up in smoke. Must have been a nice conversation during pillow talk time.
Your butthurt is showing. Sorry your wife is fat.

I agree with Scruffy. She COULD be ok.
And by ok I mean she'll need to apply to every prelim and transitional spot. Then she can eventual backdoor a residency by filling a vacated spot.

Tell her to just keep on taking the exam. I know several lawyers that took the bar 3-4 times before they passed.

She could probably get into the family medicine program in Bogalusa
Posted on 7/21/16 at 3:45 pm to Yellerhammer5
She should model instead

She has a tough road ahead.
Likely going to end up with a Psych, Fam Med or crappy Peds, Internal Med residency.
She might turn out fine if she is an otherwise reasonable person.
But I hope you love her, its gonna be a rough few years. Might want to cut your loses and just get with a nurse or something.

Wait so she's your girlfriend and you have no idea what she wants to do in the field? OK

IMHO, Step 1 was the most difficult exam I've ever taken.
I thought the MCAT was more difficult/stressful, but maybe that's because I was still in college and didn't put in near the time that I did during medical school. But, I agree with the rest of your post. I don't have much memory of preparing for Step 2 or 3, but I have vivid memories of how I studied 12 hours a day for Step 1.

that right there is why i could never be a doc.
Give me my CM degree having barely cracked a book. I'll make enough money to be ok

I had no idea that Caribbean medical schools were even a thing.
Doing some reading on the USMLE. Holy shite that sounds brutal.
