There are more reliable places to buy used ski equipment. Geartrade is a good spot.

I wouldn't buy a pair of skis, new or used, without personally checking them out first. You never know based on pictures if someone is covering up a core shot or some other damage that affects the integrity and durability of the ski.

Have you skied yet this year? I am going to get my first days on the mountain this weekend at A-Basin most likely

Not yet..I just bought a mountain collective pass, and I'm gonna try to go hit up Mammoth in the next few weeks. Already got 3x more snow in 19 days in November than the whole month last year

The November snow has been pretty solid so far. I came back from the desert in Utah just in time
Haven't been to Mammoth yet but I am sure it will be great

Seriously I have a decent pair of skis I'm looking to sell. For real no BS. $50

Why are you buying Skis? Do you live in a skiing region? If you are like most Louisiana residents who travel to ski every year or so, it's probably best to just rent.

I bought skis and boots from an off rental place on the web for my family. We have had no issues with ours other than the kids out growing theirs.

Buying skis without testing them out seems like a horrible idea

Shoot me an email at gmail hippietiger420 if you want to get together. We will have a group of about 8 out there this weekend. All Louisiana and Texas folks. Look for a Louisiana flag flying on the beach too. One of my buddies is cooking a pot of gumbo Sunday and we should be partying a little between runs

Go to a local shop and get fitted properly/find out what size, measurements, etc. you need and then look for used skis with the same specs.
And I 1000% agree with not buying boots without trying them on beforehand. Boots that do not fit properly will make for a miserable experience.

Yeah there are several mountains within 6 hours of where I live, including Lake Tahoe

I think I'm going to get these, they are new and pretty cheap and look decent. Read some positive reviews online

Mammoth needs a 5' base to be really good. Be careful there if they say they have 2-3' base

I would only buy new skis on the internet. That is my personal preference because I have to have my binding mounted in a specific place on my skis. Buying used skis that have already been mounted don't allow you to mount new bindings on them in the place you want if they have already been drilled. Also skis that have been mounted too many times could result in the base of the ski cracking or being completely destroyed. But do what you want...i'm not the one hooked up to the 2 pieces of wood.

I'm not going to try to talk you out of those, but skis marketed as 'intermediate' are likely to be fairly soft; you're likely to outgrow them pretty quickly, especially if you live close to real mountains.

What would you recommend buying? Skis for advanced skiers?

Yes - skis marketed as being 'advanced' or 'expert' are likely to be a little stiffer, and are likely to have better edgehold, so you'll be using the ski's edges and geometry without them breaking loose and scraping.
It's really down to preferences though - construction is going to be good, quality is going to be good (flat bases, good bevels on the edges, good longevity) (for new skis anyway) for anything you buy.
For what it's worth, I'm a reasonably good (but nowhere near expert) intermediate. I skied hardcore amateur racing skis for several years and loved them even though I wasn't good enough to really work them. Now I'm on 'expert' all-mountain skis, and like them even more, but I'm bigger than average so I can bend a stiffer ski and get it to work for me.
Don't get too hung up on gear though (except for boots - be obsessed with them) It's all fun, on anything.
Check out EpicSki.com - look through some of the forums there. It's the internet, so there's a lot of bullshite, but there's also a ton of great advice there.

I bought a pair of last seasons model during the summer and had them shipped from some place in Wisconsin and didnt have any issues.
Like others have said, as long as you know the length and width you want it's not big deal to buy sight unseen if they are new. Used I would be a tad nervous because there may be problems you can't see in a picture.
