For what it's worth, I'm a reasonably good (but nowhere near expert) intermediate. I skied hardcore amateur racing skis for several years and loved them even though I wasn't good enough to really work them. Now I'm on 'expert' all-mountain skis, and like them even more, but I'm bigger than average so I can bend a stiffer ski and get it to work for me.

Here are some reasonably priced skis with bindings-it's where I saw the Head 78's at. Do any of these catch your eye as a good ski for an intermediate?

Damn, it looks like some deals there. Honestly, I don't know much if anything about specific models; all of those are mainstream, well-known manufacturers, and I genuinely doubt that any of them would be bad.

But I'd bet that there's a wide variety of characteristics represented there, and how you narrow that selection down will depend on what you personally want out of skiing.

Big turn radius vs short, floaty in powder vs quick edge-to-edge on groomed, stable at high speed vs easy to snake through trees, etc.

Seriously, don't get caught up in paralysis via analysis -- you may be overthinking, and what the hell, it's only money if you pick the 'wrong' one.

For good advice, though, I'd always recommend EpicSki. Here's a link to a thread discussing skis for an intermediate skier that specifically mentions the Head Rev 78s (I just did a search for 'Head Rev 78' in the 'Ski Gear Discussion'). Dunno if that will help, or just be more info overload, but there it is.

That's a good thread with some solid info, thanks. Yeah there's a lot of information.. It's hard to tell exactly what's good for me, because the ski descriptions are usually a sales pitch paragraph without saying anything negative or listing drawbacks and reviews are hard to find.

I'll search that forum for the models I'm looking at and make a decision. Thanks they're pretty cheap so it's not like I'll be put in a huge bind by using skis that aren't perfect for a season.
