Buxton & Savoy Roads - St. Amant --- why are so many leaving this area?

I'm currently in the market for a new home and I'm seeing some nice renovated homes in this area pop up for sale left and right lately. I know the area flooded in 2016 but other than that, is this a known bad area or something? Why are these people suddenly looking to leave that area? Anything I should be aware of before taking the real estate there seriously?

If you're into that it's a great place, but it has hardly progressed in the last two decades. It's also the drainage outfall of Baton Rouge and Ascension.

You answered your own question. People are moving to higher ground. There's nothing wrong with Buxton beyond that. The houses could use some updating, but nothing terribly wrong with them. Very close to several nice churches, the post office, the middle school, and Murray's. Economy in Ascension is strong thanks to the plants. Great school district.
People are just afraid of flooding. It flooded once, and could easily flood again. The Parish has not done anything to make future flooding any less likely.

My parents live near there and yes it flooded badly. I think it's mainly because its an older subdivision and there is quite of bit of people from the area relocating/upgrading within the area. That development has not been kept up well by everyone. If your commute was into BR, there are closer places. St. Amant is a good area, close to I-10, easy to get to New Orleans, convenient for the petrochem plants.
