Where would one wait for a train in BR in the 1960s? One of the more iconic songs from the Woodstock generation, and there is not even a place to catch a train in BR?

Me and Bobby McGee
Written by Kris Kristoferson. No. 1 on charts sung by Janis Joplin.

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train
And I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
It rode us all the way to New Orleans

It’s a song. Texarkana is not a mile from Louisiana either. It’s about 90 miles. You just got to roll with it.

I am pretty sure there was a train that went back and forth from BR to NO. I live right outside of baton rouge and when my dad was a teenager, that's now they would always get to NO.. By train.

Google says you need to ride a bus to catch a train though.

I live about 20 miles south of Baton Rouge. Like I said, my dad, when he was a teenager (which was in the late 50s and 60s), he and his friends would take the train to get to and from New Orleans. It was one of two ways to get to New Orleans back then.. The other was airline Hwy.

For a significant part of my life, I misheard the lyrics as "an hour from Texarkana" which could make sense. They should've run with that

OK, this is pretty cool. Your post got me to more googling and it seems the museum at 100 S. River Rd. is an old train station. Yazoo and Mississippi line. The lyrics hold up!

LINK
The depot was built in 1925 for the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad Company which was later acquired by the Illinois Central Railroad. The brick and stone depot was designed in a Classic Revival style. The depot was used for passenger service until 1971. The building is now owned by the City of Baton Rouge, has been restored and houses the the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Used to have an old Pullman car there that was somewhat preserved/restored.

Wish BR to NOLA rail service would be a thing again.
