So other private entities should lose revenues due to the govt decisions?

Elections have consequences.

It has been insufferable. Have seen a couple of virtue signal posts comparing this to WW2 sacrifices, lmao

I already know one person that’s been laid off back in my home town. Childhood friend that ended up not going to college and working as a waitress. There is a whole discussion about life choices and all that, but she is just the tip of this iceberg. We are torpedoing the economy and there is no government stimulus that is going to be able to help this boat avoid taking on serious water.

letter from the state ordering her to close her business
Can they legally do this or is it gov't overreach?

shouldnt the govt pay for the loss of revenue.
No. They are using OUR money and I don't owe that business anything.

Businesses are a risk from their very beginning.

They are down 30%

That’s not sustainable especially when people start running out of cash

Pretty sure we both know the same family that owns quite a few of two fast food franchises in south La - they are hurting already

No one is 100% sure but I would put my money on our recovery being much faster than most are predicting. Sure it will likely take 1-2 years to get back 100% but the majority of business will recover rather quickly. Most companies are still operating even with shutdowns in several states

And then the next virus comes along. This reaction to the virus sets the precedent. People will be more hesitant to open small businesses in the future

I say it is overreach.

Understand...but OUR govt is who gave the order.

I'm just not a proponent to the govt giving private businesses orders.

He who pays the bills makes the orders.

I bet her landlord is going to be pissed about that.

Well if they don't do this for small businesses, that landlord won't have any tenants in the tenant pool when this shite ends.

Letters or packages? As long as I’ve been alive I’ve never got a letter delivery from usps on a Sunday.

I live in Mandeville, LA and the postal service has been delivering regular mail on Sunday for years.

Talk doesn’t keep the lights on. By the way, the financial/banking industry employs a ton of people as well. Eventually somebody gets left holding the bag.

Tons of people are already out of work. A huge portion of those that aren’t are now working remotely at.. what, 60-70% of normal productivity, best case? The economy runs on:
1. People making things or providing services that have value, and
2. People buying those things/services for a price.

This isn’t 2008; it’s a productivity crisis which affects the fundamentals of the global economy. Which is a house of cards. There’s no way to reduce both output and demand while also maintaining the status quo in terms of incomes/living standards. Companies can’t afford to pay people the same wages to do less, and the government can’t offset those losses without simply printing money.

Ultimately, either wages fall due to pay cuts/layoffs, or prices increase due to inflation.
