Wikipedia's entry on Bugatti is interesting. They make it sound like it's a defunct company until you get to the third paragraph.
Then there's this:
So does this make the modern Bugatti Italian, German or French? Italian owner, Volkswagon bought the name, and they used to be French back in the day. Where are they made now?
quote:
Automobiles Ettore Bugatti was a French car manufacturer of high-performance automobiles, founded in 1909 in the then-German city of Molsheim, Alsace by the Italian-born industrial designer Ettore Bugatti. The cars were known for their design beauty and for their many race victories. Famous Bugattis include the Type 35 Grand Prix cars, the Type 41 "Royale", the Type 57 "Atlantic" and the Type 55 sports car.
The death of Ettore Bugatti in 1947 proved to be the end for the marque, and the death of his son Jean Bugatti in 1939 ensured there was not a successor to lead the factory. No more than about 8,000 cars were made.
Then there's this:
quote:
In the 1990s, an Italian entrepreneur revived it as a builder of limited production exclusive sports cars. Today, the name is owned by the Volkswagen Group.

Molsheim, where they’ve always been made.
Look up the Bugatti Atelier. It’s really cool.
Some Italian entrepreneur bought the Bugatti name in 1987 and tried to make it work. The only functional vehicle that came out of that arrangement was the EB110.
Modern Bugatti as you and I know it, makers of the Veyron and the Chiron, has been wholly owned by Volkswagen since 1998.

Good to see France in the supercar game. Them Eye-talians and Germans needed their monopoly broken (even though Germans own it).

The Germans own Lambo as well.
