Sorry for Facebook link below (only video that didn't have useless ads before the real video plays), but here's some video of the first strikes the BUFF made on ISIS. Video is taken from the Sniper-SE Advanced Targeting Pod on the B-52 itself.

Bring the rain!!!

With one sortie, yes. Believe it or not the buildings over in northern Iraq and northern Syria are constructed with some serious strength concrete so sometimes it takes quite a bit of weapons to take them out. In the second attack, you can see the secondary explosions from the IED making material being set off from the explosion of the JDAM dropped from the B-52.

Forgot to add, they've done more than this but this is the only video that has been declassified so far.

Then your expectations are way to high for what this type of limited warfare is all about. Those expectations are also too high for what a single aircraft can do.

Just speculating.... but that JDAM would probably leave a ringing in your ears.

I was thinking today when I saw that we were using B-52's with guided munitions, why not just use some AC-130's with 105's? Seems like it would be cost efficient for use against ISIS.

Several reasons:

1) Can't get the same weapons effects
2) AC-130 is a very limited fleet and mostly support Special Ops only
3) AC-130s only operate at night due to their slow speed and vulnerability to MANPADs

There are more reasons, but those are just a few off the top of my head.

Yes really. The weapons in that video were all unguided 500 lb bombs. Using those might look cool on a video, but would be completely ineffective against the targets that were in the video I posted. If you look at the second attack in the video I posted, the weapon that hit that building was a 2,000 lb penetrator-type JDAM (GBU-31v3) that is made to hit hardened targets. That weapon was probably coming in at around 1100-1200 feet per second. In your video, the weapons dropped from low altitude were high drag weapons and would have impacted at only around 300-400 feet per second and even the high altitude releases would have only been about 650-700 feet per second. Essentially, all of those would have been like throwing spitballs at the target in the video I posted.

Got B-52 support early in Iraq. Very impressive platform, saved our bacon on a couple of different occasions. God Bless those air crews!

Copy, would have been my brothers/sisters from Minot operating out of RAF Fairford, UK. I was operating out of Diego Garcia and we were used pretty extensively in the southern portions of Iraq.
