You're talking about doing it "easily" for almost half of that. Not sure why you put less than $60.
Because you started our conversation by asking if I could do it cheaper than them so I'm assuming you think anything under $60 is difficult.

Keep in mind that lnch is dad-bodded to the highest order. He eats more than an average family.

Maybe more than northshorebamaman's family.

Why are we ignoring the $60,000 mortgage???

You could pay off a $1.5 million dollar house in 3 years at that rate.

That is the most glaring lie they placed in there

I’d like this guy to be my lender. I didn’t borrow near $1 mil and my yearly mortgage counting taxes and insurances is $78k a year.

That's an absurd assumption. It's also not factual. Our conversation started like this:

quote:

quote:

Well, I have a family of four (with two teenagers) and also live in a high COL area and we spend around half that, and we're not eating beans and rice.
I don't believe you're counting every penny you spend on food. Going out to eat once with a family of 4 will be $50 at minimum. That's 20% of your weekly food on one meal

That would probably be a good thing judging by the obesity rate in this country.

I agree with pretty much all of your post, and the last one you made. It's certainly not easy, and it requires quite a bit of effort. And we absolutely eat leftovers. The curried lentils are already frozen.

And kids definitely complicate things, and I even said as much.

So if I eat as much as your family, I won't be obese?

Why don't you break down your food budget? I did mine.

I have no idea what the exact number is. I don't have to eat like you, so I don't.

ETA: I spent $33 on some food items today that are mainly just for me, and they'll last about a week.

I couldn't tell you that. How obese are you?

If you put even the slightest bit of thought into this, you'd realize how little sense you're making

1) Making that much money probably allows them to move in circles and use schools that make them feel "average." If they lived in small town USA with those salaries, then they would realize they aren't average.
2)I agree they should be saving more.
3)In some places 1.5 million is what it takes to have nice home inside a city.

No joke.

Principle and interest on a 30 yr mortgage of $1.2MM @ 3% is still more than $60k/year. Presumably the house was purchased for less than that and it's grown to be worth $1.5MM. Or the down payment was larger than 20%.

1. $60k for a house. That’s a million. Go find a 350k house. Saving 12k per year.
2. $42k childcare. Hire a full time nanny and pay $30k. Saving another 12k per year.
3. $12k for lessons. Cut activities in half. Saving $6k.
4. Cut one vacation from the list. Save another $6k.

Saving $36k is a good start.

Then there are ways to cut that tax rate. Buy a farm, some kind of business to funnel write offs through.

That you're eating well on $1000 a month for 4 people, basically 4 adults no less.

You get by, I'll give you that. But that's about it.
