It's a rational decision. Dogs require more maintenance, eat more food and make more noise. You don't want to waste your supplies on a dog and then have the dog attract zombies by barking.

Yeah, I'm going with fake as well, for one obvious reason: there is no cussing whatsoever. If you are trying to sell to someone that the zombie apocalypse is happening and also get the audience to buy it, then there's got to be dog cussing. Can't think of a single zombie apocalypse scenario where this doesn't happen.
They just wanted to make it family friendly and get 10 million hits on YouTube to make a few grand off of it. "What the heck" should be an immediate tip off that this is the case.
