Yeah it’s a fake. You got me. I was asking for advice, but comments like yours are par for the course. Sorry you can’t fathom someone having a nice watch because you don’t have one, I guess.

Indeed. I just let the non-hacking ones run down when I switch watches and pull the stem on the hacking movements. Setting the time and date is part of my ritual.

The positive is it is always 5 o'clock at my house...

If you are talking about the large white dialed watch to the right of the Aquanaut it is a Panerai 518.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches don't have batteries, but Rolex Oyster Quartz watches do...

Since it has come back up the 5100 was the first Rolex quartz watch with the movement based on the Beta 21 developed by several watch manufacturers, I think around 1000 were made in the early 70s.

They didn't produce a quartz watch for several years until they finished work on the Oysterquartz movement. The Oysterquartz watches were in the catalog for over 20 years, but only about 25k were sold, compared to the 3/4-1 million watches they make every year now. They are quite rare and seeing a bump in prices over the last few years.

Here is a 17013 that has an integrated bracelet ala Audemars Piguet.

Also as a PSA don't think all counterfeit Rolex watches are as easy to spot as this one. They are good enough now that many average jewelers can get caught off guard even when the back is open and the movement exposed. With watches, you always buy the seller.

It's gotten so crazy lately that I would be suspicious of buying a used one from someone who didn't buy it first hand. The Chinese are getting pretty talented.

Thanks.

I am not a fan of the automatic Daytonas, though the ceramic Daytona is drawing me in but the prices are well stupid.

I used to buy and sell manual wind early Daytonas, it is what paid for my collection, I have two left but they are safe deposit queens. The only time I wear them is to GTGs for watch geeks as they are the only people that appreciate them.

I just got mine Friday, been on the list for 3 months. I’ve been on another AD’s list for 9 months now. It’s crazy how S.S. Rolex’s are so rare!

A fake watch trying to fake being a make of watch that shouts tacky.

Akin to having a fake porn star date on your arm.

They are "rare" because Rolex controls the supply. The "new" ceramic bezel steel Daytonas is seeing the same sort of inflated pricing and dealers holding them for "special customers" and not even displaying them as they did in the early 1990s. 3 months isn't long to wait for a MSRP Daytona. The precious metal Rolex don't fair as well and can usually be had at a decent discount.

For example Rolex made a 50th anniversary platinum Daytona (first with a ceramic bezel) in 2013 and you can still buy unworn examples for 30,000 off retail!

I like the watch, I think the colorway is awesome, but even with the huge discount it is just overpriced and likely not going to be very collectible. Then again the ugly ducklings often are the ones that everyone wants 30 years on...

It's a "rip off" if they tell you that you need a repair that you do not need.
