That TV weighed more than some automobiles today.

I had a 40 inch Sony tube television that weighed 286 lbs. In the manual for the television there was a graphic of a baby crawling on the floor in front of the tv with the red circle with a line drawn through it.

Until a few years ago we kept an old tube TV in our upstairs den. I can’t remember the size, but it was huge, probably 36”- 40”. Thankfully, by the time we decided to get rid of it, my son was a big HS offensive lineman with friends who were also big HS offensive linemen willing to do some quick manual labor for $20.

We had a 32 in. Sony with the old style picture tube in it and it finally gave up the ghost about 10 years ago and it was a chore getting it from the 2nd floor bedroom to the curb. It was heavy but not so much so it was too heavy, but it sure was awkward being so damn thick front to back.
I already had a 46 in. HDTV on hand to replace it and that was a snap to install and probably not even 1/4 of the old TV's weight.
I built an entertainment center for the man cave and it is full of electronics between the amp, tuner, turntable, double cassette player and 5 disc CD player. Then there's a couple hundred vinyl LP's, about the same in cassettes and around 300 CD's for my listening pleasure.
Yeah I'm old school.

My Dad built an entertainment center out of 2x12s. Looks good, dark brown stain, but heavy as frick. Took both of us to move it into position.

That's the epitome of "overkill" to use that heavy a lumber to make that piece of furniture-------but I'm betting it will last several lifetimes if put together well.
I make mine out of cypress 1 x 6 boards glued up to form the top, middle and bottom shelves along with the 2 side panels. Then I used the same wood cut to dimension to form the face framing. The back is closed in with a 1/4 in. sheet of birch plywood since that grain closely matches the grain in the cypress.
To finish it I used 3 coats of shellac cut with denatured alcohol to make what is called a "piss coat" that allowed the stain I used to go on more even across the piece. Then a few coats of clear semi-gloss poly to finish it off.

Overkill is correct
I told him in case of tornado, pull out the TV, and he and Mom could take shelter in that spot.

i built something like that in the early 90s with shelves on the sides pointing outwards for vhs tapes.
I think the owner still has it.

I donated mine to a charity. Dude came over to pick it up and realized he needed help. I helped him and when we went ' One, two, three, lift!' the seat of my pants ripped and my wife thought I'd torn something in my back.
I loved that television, it was the first really nice thing I ever bought and it was an awesome tv. But damn, it was heavy.

I don't remember the screen size but I had a really big Mitsubishi tube TV. 95% of the weight was on the screen side. My neighbor and I didn't realize that until we nearly dropped it hauling it into the house.
