Crazy that the greedy, money hungry, suing Mike Love - who owes his entire career to Brian - is the last one standing.

Al Jardine still alive and touring this summer. He just released a nice little EP a little over a week ago.

Early member David Marks will join Jardine on some of those dates.

Bruce Johnson is touring w/Love right now.

Early 70s members Blondie Chaplin and Rickey Fataar are still around doing music as well.

Paul McCartney has said that he believes God only knows by The Beach Boys is the greatest song ever written, so there's that

And coming from tGOAT, that's the greatest of compliments.

BTW, Wilson was 2 days younger than Paul.

Yep. Back in the USSR was damn near a Beach Boys cover.

Paul McCartney‘s kids said that McCartney would play “God Only Knows“ over and over again in their house. He listened to it incessantly. He once said that it’s the one song that he really wishes he would’ve written.

Was coming to say this. And Brian had his brother Carl sing lead on it. After Carl died, the Beach Boys would occasionally ask Christopher Cross to fill in for Carl.

I vividly remember the Good Vibrations scene and the obsessive iterating until it was perfect. I may need to rewatch soon in honor of Mr. Wilson.

Always loved this Jardine quote about BW:

A lot of people don’t truly appreciate Pet Sounds. Taken from a historical perspective, people didn’t write albums like that back then. He really broke the mold when it came to what people knew about albums. Of course the Beatles ended up taking that into the stratosphere with Revolver and Sgt Peppers but Brian Wilson got them first.

The movie Love and Mercy has been mentioned multiple times and I agree, it's a good watch. The documentary "The Wrecking Crew" has a segment on Brian Wilson that is fascinating. He was a kid in his 20's, and seasoned professional musicians were in awe of his ideas and composition. Brian used these musicians to record the Pet Sounds album. Growing up I thought the Beach Boys were just a poppy bubble gum group in the 60's. I had no idea that Brian Wilson was a musical genius. "The Wrecking Crew" can be watched for free right now on Tubi.

Sounds like puffing but its a true statement.

Paul McCartney said it was the greatest album ever made and you cant consider yourself a professional musician without listening to it. Thats a strong endorsement.

IIRC, there were 90 hours of studio tape used to reach the level of Brian’s satisfaction with the final copy of Good Vibrations.

Not much debate too it. Brian Wilson heard Rubber Soul and said I’m going to make the greatest album ever written and locked himself away, filled his living room with sand, and wrote Pet Sounds.

Of course then the Beatles responded with Sgt Peppers and the final piano chord made Brian Wilson lose his mind and go insane for a while. He said “they did it. They already did it” and couldn’t believe it.

Truly a remarkable time in music history.
