Anyone ever visit any of the BREC conservation areas? Blackwater and Frenchtown ones in particular. Was thinking about taking the SO and the dogs for a nature walk, but the Frenchtown Road one looks like a kidnapping/rape waiting to happen. 500 acres in the middle of nowhere - and right next door to the old Satan worship place (yes it really was back in the 80's.) Really surprised nothing bad has happened back there yet - at least I haven't heard about anything.

They are both very nice. The Blackwater one has gravel trails. The Frenchtown one doesn't and can be muddy after a rain.

We love Frenchtown. We take the kids and wander round four hours. Several different mini ecosystems in the area along the hikes

No dogs allowed though which is a bummer

Eta: blackwater does allow dogs

The dog is coming with us - I'm a rule breaker.

So you're one of those self-important dog owners. Gotcha.

Why would no dogs be allowed on a nature trail?

Haven't been to those in the OP (and I don't know what the dog rules are), but Bluebonnet is a great park. And if the OP is up for taking a little drive, Jean Lafitte Park is just an incredible place (recommend not taking your dog there even if permitted).

Some others also worth considering are Fontainebleau State Park and Northlake Nature Center (both off US190 in Mandeville).

sure it was sparky. you hid and watched right?

Can y'all imagine if facebook would've been around back then? I'm sure there would be detailed accounts of the weekly human sacrifices.

Frenchtown is full of mosquitos during the summer.
Nice winter of spring day would be best time to visit

Did have 2-3 large deer walk by us which was cool to see.

About a year ago, our favorite reporter, Chris Nakamoto, (sarcasm on) did a story on the many car break-ins occurring at Blackwater conservation area. Apparently someone was burglarizing them while the owners were enjoying the lake and trails.

I don't think so. Just have little patience for ridiculous rules. My dog will be on a leash and is very well behaved.

Back in the 80s when I was a kid, every patch of forest was most definitely full of devil worship
