The conceptual plans for the new zoo would need 100-125 acres depending on which spot they pick.

What spots are they considering?

Like someone else said though, you get in the car and make sure you have absolutely everything you need, your gun and all, and you do not stop anywhere for any reason within a 15 mile radius of that zoo.

Good lord, it isn't that bad. It is mostly interstate and highway driving and the area around the zoo isn't anything to worry about. It is more about just being in a bad location away from the population center of visitors with no other attractions nearby.

Why does the Advocate not know where the current zoo is?

I honestly know of not ONE person who has said they have been to the zoo in at least 10 years. Last time I went, I was at LSU in the late 90's and I only went because the girl I was dating wasn't from here and never had been

$150 million?

What a waste of money

For years all the OT says about the zoo is that it sucks, they need to tear it down, it's in a shite area, and people should drive to nola to go to a real zoo.

Brec decides (hopefully) to get rid of it, build a brand new zoo in a good area, and now it's a waste of money. Lol

Yes, and we are wondering why anyone would want to invest 140 million dollars with the same crowd that let the zoo go to crap.

Didn't they talk about wanting to convert the fairgrounds into the zoo?

I could have seen that before last year but the flooding out that way was so insane that it seems like a bad idea waiting to happen.

Invest in North Baton Rouge? How about fixing that area and then talk about tertiary shitvlike zoos. People don't want to drive through Beirut to see a hot, miserable polar bear.

The land isn't utilized correctly and the enclosures are very old.

Why spruce up a turd?

I'd rather it go to shite and start all over than do renovations where it makes it harder to pull out and head elsewhere.

Fwiw, brec seems to get praise on this board for how they run things.

BREC may be good at some things, but by your own description, they let the zoo deteriorate to the point it is now so why give them a second chance?

How does NO, NY, SD, St. Louis and the other cities with top tier zoos do it? Does their park commission run things are do they have another entity in charge?
