Friends from work here in Houston are driving to BR for a bowling tournament at Circle Bowl located near Cortana Mall during the first week in December. I was asked for advice as I lived in BR from 1974 to 1991. My memory was the Pastime under the bridge for a unusual bar experience and Mike Anderson's for a marvelous dining experience. They want to stay at a Hilton related property due to points and their choices are Hilton Capitol Center on Lafayette Street downtown, Hampton inn & Suites also on Lafayette, Hampton Inn on Reiger Road, Homewood Suites on Corporate blvd, and 2 other Hamptons near I -10 and College.

I told them that staying near the bowling alley was not a good idea. They can afford it so my suggestion was the downtown locations as they could check out the river and the Pastime (of my memory) was a great place to go. Let the Hilton tell them the easiest way to get to Circle Bowl.

What is the collective advice for the Hampton Inns or Embassy Suites near Corporate Blvd, College & I-10 and other places to eat? They are not interested in going to the casinos.

thanks in advance

Embassy Suites offers free cooked to order breakfast every morning and celebrates a happy hour every evening. Parking is free and in a good area with many restaurant choices nearby. Rooms are suites and have a separate living and bedroom quarters.

Hilton downtown is nice, but parking is a challenge. No real freebies here unless you are a Gold or Diamond member.

I shy away from Hampton Inn. Why? There breakfast is microwaved garbage and only slightly less expensive than Embassy Suites.

Same goes for Homewood Suites as well.

Seemed nice when a friend stayed there recently. It's right next to Mansur's, which is a good upscale restaurant (much better than Mike Anderson's IMO).

It's also close to Towne Center, a newish development with Whole Foods and a ton of restaurants. Also would be easy to get to Circle Bowl from there.

Pastime is terrible and I could give you about a dozen places that I would go to before Mike Andersons.

Beausoleil-by Bocage. Upscale LA food
DiGiulios-neighborhood Italian food by the perkins overpass
Ginos-upscale Italian. More proper than DiGiulios
LA Lagniappe-Not my favorite LA food place but the food board raves about
Roux 61-fried seafood restaurant on Bluebonnet. Good portions and good food. Gets crowded though.
Chimes-my go to. Best beer selection for restaurant in the city. Best wings in BR. Crowlers to go now.
Sushi Yama-best sushi in BR
Ichiban-Next best
Tsunami-3rd best but best view in the city for drinks
City Pork on Jefferson-Pork dishes with big servings. Very good sandwiches
Overpass Merchant-small bar/restaurant at the overpass perkins. Small menu but very well executed food and drinks
Olive or Twist-Best cocktail bar in town that just expanded with more seating. Very good food but I go here for drinks. Best use of a small beer tap menu in town also.

Theres 12.

I pretty much agree with everything that Will Cover posted. I generally stay at Hilton brands for the points and generally chose the Garden Inns when I can. Since I don't see one of those in BR, I would opt for the Embassy Suites (though I haven't stayed at the one on Constitution).

Those restaurants suck, but both options you've narrowed the hotels down to have pretty good restaurants nearby. I usually choose Embassy or Homewood when I do Hilton brand hotels unless the flagship Hilton is in a preferable area.

Watermark hotel just opened downtown. Supposed to be nice. It's a Marriott Category 5 property. I've heard good things about the new Holiday Inn on North Blvd as well.

If you are really that tied to Hilton, I'd go with either the Hampton or Hilton on Lafayette st. Both are good hotels. Another Broken Egg Cafe is in the IBM building...which is right next to the new Hampton Inn on Lafayette street, so they can walk to a decent breakfast place.

The Hampton Inn off College is pretty old, but I'm sure parking is easy.

For any of them, book early.

Whit that was a dump in 1974. It is past your bedtime now so run along to bed, I know you are repeating 6th grade for the third time so get your rest and maybe you can start getting D's on your report card
