According to your link, a pit I'll is ranked #34 as American Staffordshire Terrier. See, the dog bite/attack/death statistics lump a number of breeds/mixed breeds with pits. Numbers are skewed because of this. Even if all the pits they lump together we're the same breed, we are talking about a very small percent of those breeds doing this.

Less than 1% of these breeds are doing this. That is a mighty small number to paint the whole breed/s as bad. The pitbull is the most populous dog in America. If you include all the breeds the stats lump as pitbulls, it s the most populous in the world.

You are ignoring the glaring statistic that while it may be that only a small percentage of dogs identified as pits kill kids, the vast majority of times a dog kills a kid, the dog is one of those breeds, despite their relatively small makeup of the canine population.
I actually have some work to do today, so you gentlemen have fun.

They don't make up a relatively small population of dogs. They are the most populous in America.

They also kill more people every year than all other breeds combined.

Yes, and your point? That is actually less then .0001% of them that have killed. Not a very high percent to justify eradicating/outlawing them.

.0001% is 1000% higher than any other breed, so yeah.

But they are still only 6% of the dog population. And they are responsible for over 60% of fatalities.

Link? I provided statistics. There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

The "pit bull" breed has a higher percentage of dogs who passed their CGC test (canine good citizen) than the Beagles. Just be cautious of the owner of any type of dog. Be responsible :)

Earlier in this thread a poster linked to were it says there are roughly 6 million pitbulls in America. Now just divide the number of pitbull fatalities by that number and see what percent you get.

Gees, how many more people have to die before some people realize that breed of dog doesn't make for good neighborhood pets?

It's not a breed problem, it's an owner problem. If the pits are banned and become instinct, the people who use the dogs for fighting/aggression will just move on to another breed. Those dogs are not born mean and aggressive, they are molded that way. Michael Vick's dogs that were rescued are living proof that the breed is not evil natured.

The owner didn't make that dog mean u moran
Posted on 7/9/15 at 8:09 pm to aprilmaydecember
Did the owner create a dog that bites, holds, and shakes until it's victim is dead? Because that's the problem. When these dogs attack kids, they kill kids.

From a non-Pit defender, who gives a shite? If the dogs in its own fenced in yard, no wrong was done. Sad for the kid though.
You are exactly right. And had this dog been any other breed (and it's very possible that it was) EVERYONE would agree. When are people going to realize that the real issue is the people who own these dogs?! Pit bulls do not enter this world waiting to tear the face off of someone. If they truly were as people portray them, they would be used by intelligent people (or terrorist) as a weapon instead of just piss poor a-holes for their own sick, twisted reasons.

Although yes it's true, pit bulls tend to be the choice of shitty, low brow, trashy, irresponsible pet owners, the main reason they get a "bad rap" is because they have been genetically engineered to be killing machines. Years and years of selective breeding has resulted in an animal that has the physical power and mental disposition that makes them killers in a class all their own. Sure, other breeds may bite, but pit bulls do what we've designed them to do, kill.
Even though they are taught and bread for violence (against each other mostly), their nature is the opposite. These dogs aren't born aggressive. They are put through hell and are mentally damaged by their owners. When you show a dog love, they love. Even the damaged ones. Please watch this video about a few of the dogs rescued from Michael Vick's dog ring LINK

CocomoLSU, I heart you. I love your words and wisdom. We have the same thought process. I've been thinking about finding a picture of that exact same vicious dog w/those 6 (or younger) year olds. So many deceived people believe that these dogs are born monsters. They are dogs. Animals. The only reason they have the bad rap that they do are b/c of the true monster...the human.

Just talked to the father of a friend of mine up here today and this child's father worked for him at his company. Sad situation. He said the Father still wasn't able to tell him exactly what happened but he did say that the child had played with the dog before on several occasions with no incident. I guess you just never know when these dogs are going to go off.
