When you buy a movie can you make profit off of it? No.
You can contact the painter about doing this and receiving a small kick back, but not otherwise. It is his IP.

I love how you gloss over every contradiction regarding your personal beliefs when the potential benefit is seen.. It's quite funny how you want to screw over the actual artist to make a buck simple because you bought a painting from someone who may not know any better and isn't famous.. .

If you had to ask this question you shouldn't be trying to sell tshirts. You shouldn't even try to sell lemonade you jackass.

Unless you commissioned the painting, you don't own the artwork. You own the painting.

My interest is hoping it increases in value. The artist is not famous at all but it is a good painting that everyone liked.

Nope, you own a painting. I have a Stone's album, guess what?

If you want to print the picture. Draw up a contract discuss contract with the artist. Sell your prints and he gets whatever percent he deems is his since it is his artwork. Otherwise whatever you sell and make off it, he would and should sue the frick out of you.
I'll send you my copy of the art of the deal this week to read. You may be able to get the deal done after that.
Thanks for the advice.
