Chevron near stanford/highland is always a solid $.50 higher than normal as well

Not a Chevron. It's a Valero (and used to be a Shell).

But yeah, we used to joke that it was probably a drug money laundering operation and they really didn't care about selling gas.

It's like Kramer on Seinfeld "they just write it off Jerry." "Do you even know what a write off is?"

I'm not poor so I don't even pay attention. When I need gas, I stop at the most convenient place and fill up.

I'm not poor either, and I laugh at those who would wait in line or drive across town to get gas $0.02/gal cheaper. I'm in the industry and get that fuel marketing is unique among commodities. It's the only thing on the market consumers buy and know to the penny how much it costs at multiple suppliers at any given point in time. I'm just shocked that upcharging $.60/gal actually works.

Also, if you think the gas is that much different you should hang out at Exxon's loading terminal on Scenic Highway and take inventory of the trucks pulling in/out of there and where they're headed.

So you are saying that Race-trac and Cheveron are the same gas. Or That race-trac and Exxon are the same????

Most of them use the same gas from the same terminals

Only difference is they each add a certain amount of detergent, some more than others

This is the techron, v-power, etc

I see, All I know is that my prelude runs like shite when I put race-trac in it compared to Chevron or Texaco.. Those are the only two places I go to get fuel for that car... Most cars today though you can't tell the difference.. Unless you have a turbo. It may require 93 octane and then I would only use a top grade.....

And there it is..... You get what you pay for... Chevron gas at 87 is still better than Race-tracs gas at 93 octane.....

Wanna know how I know you're clueless about gas and what octane ratings mean?

There is no point in comparing 87 and 93 octane. If you car requires 93, you run 93. If it doesn't require 93, then there is no reason to run it. No significant benefit to your engine unless it is a turbo.

Also note you don't see this branding on the 87 octane or mid-grade, only on the premium.

Whats annoying is seeing parish/state vehicles filling up there, especially cops.

You have never seen any public vehicle fill up there. The owner does not accept municipal transactions.

That's not what I was talking about. Its the quality of the gas....87 Chevron @87 is better than race-trac @ 93.

Fair enough. I don't think anyone would question whether Chevron has a higher quality fuel than Race Trac.

Considering that the detergents are now in all three levels of fuel it doesn't make any sense to use any higher rating than necessary.

Gotta love Chevron, really sticking it to the people that have their gas cards at the pump and interest rates

How can a company be sticking it to anyone when there are cheaper competitors on almost every corner. Nobody has to buy Chevron gas.

Calandro's does the same thing by not accepting food stamps. Can't blame them.

Higher rating meaning higher octane?
