it does happen....there was a Blue Angel crash back when they flew F-11's in Belle Chasse and that particular plane ended up on the gate for a few years (replacing the original F-7 Cutlass gate plane)

They can, but it's awfully low and fast, and often not enough reaction time. Hoping for the best.
One of my frat brothers was part of the ground element a couple of years ago. Pretty sure he's moved on to something else now.

There was a recent story about maintenance crews having to swipe parts off of planes in museums as a result of budget cuts. The warehouses have run out of a lot of spare parts, and planes are operating past recommended maintenance schedules.
