You conveniently leave out the generational aspect of music that is always persistent. Parents and children often have this argument. Parents see their music as better than the crap their kids listen to, and kids see their parents music as dated. Depression era adults may have had a negative opinion of all those different types of music but it was their kids, specifically white kids that embraced it and brought it into the mainstream. If not for young white kids in England becoming obsessed with American blues, many of these artists would have remained lost in obscurity. The same thing can be said for hip hop. Without suburban white kids, it would not have become a financially viable medium.
