Archbishop Aymond asking all diocesan priests credibly accused of child sex abuse to leave the clergy entirely

"He is considering requesting two possible church trials for priests who were implicated in separate sex scandals this month"

"Archdiocesan officials said in a statement there are three ways a priest can lose the clerical state: “The Pope, in the most grievous cases, can impose laicization on a cleric; laicization can be imposed as a result of a penal process under the auspices of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith; and the individual priest can request laicization on his own or at the request of the bishop.”

'Bout damn time....

If he was playing hardball he would report them to authorities for real trials.

There is absolutely no reason he should have taken this long to now start to play hard ball!

The hounds from hell have already been unleashed. He is a not going to douse those flames with mock trials. Best pay up and slink off into obscurity.

Canon law is stricter than civil law. A 17 year old is legal in the eyes of the state, and there's a statute of limitations for a criminal charge.

Presumably these are priests who violated Church rules but can't be prosecuted.

the church "establishment" main priority is to protect the "church", not to solve the problem or remove priest.
A good question is, " how many priest has the church kicked out?"
Not counting priest prosecuted by authorities.

It would help and give some credibility back to the church.

If all they do is move the priests, that does nothing

Even Baylor and Penn State cringe at this trashy organization.
